I was “black” when I read The Odyssey in high school...

...but somehow I never imagined the characters as looking like me.

Why?

Because they were GREEK characters.

I didn’t need Odysseus to look like me to appreciate his story.

I didn’t need Helen of Troy to look like me to understand her importance.

They were Greek characters from a specific culture, with a specific history.

And this is what Hollywood keeps getting wrong.

We don’t identify with characters because they look like us.

We connect with them because we recognize something human in them - their struggles, their courage, their flaws, their values.

Odysseus is a GREEK hero.

Helen of Troy is a GREEK woman.

Their identities are part of what makes their stories meaningful.

Casting Colombians and Africans and Indians as Greek ISN'T "representation."

Il sistema "elysium" in purezza. Quando si afferma che il climate change (antropico) è semplicemente una scusa per ripristinare una società neo-ottocentesca, è questo a cui si allude: una società dove i potenti e i ricchi continuano a fare la vita agiata di sempre, compreso l'uso del condizionatore, e il resto del mondo, ridotto a fare sacrifici in nome di qualche strampalata ideologia.

La nostra Gioggia ha puntato tutto il suo mandato da presidente del consiglio sulla politica estera. Prima e unica leader europea a presenziare all’insediamento di Trump, fin dal primo giorno si è autoproclamata pontiere tra l’Europa e gli Stati Uniti.

Ha ripetuto allo sfinimento che finalmente l’Italia contava qualcosa nel mondo, che il suo rapporto col presidente americano ci proiettava nel futuro.

Per coltivare quel rapporto ha ignorato la politica nazionale, consegnandola a una manica di incapaci. Hanno smontato l’economia, la sanità, la scuola, l’industria, i salari. Hanno bruciato miliardi di PNRR.

Ha lasciato che Salvini, Nordio, Piantedosi, il cognato Lollobrigida e tutto il circo che avrebbe dovuto governare il paese distruggessero ogni cosa. Tutto sacrificato sull’altare del suo trionfo internazionale, i grandi successi della nostra Giorgia, viva il duce.

Il finale? Il suo mentore, il padre a cui si ispirava, il grande leader americano, la prende a calci in culo in diretta raccontando che Meloni lo ha implorato per una foto con lei al G7, e che gliel’ha concessa solo per pena.

La donna che contava nel mondo ridotta a una questua, smentita davanti a tutti, mentre Tajani cancella la trasferta negli Stati Uniti.

Il fallimento è doppio. Dentro hanno raso al suolo il paese, fuori l’unico asset che vantava si è rivoltato contro di lei in mondovisione.

Nessun governo aveva mai toccato vette di fallimento così alte.
