If we don’t stop heating up plastic, we’re COOKED 🔥🍱🫠
According to @greenpeace.org new report, each time you heat up a #plastic takeaway or a frozen dinner, you could be consuming nanoplastics along with #toxic#chemicals.

Would you serve your kids lunch with a side of microplastics and PFAS? Because that's what's happening in schools every day. A new op-ed from @enckj, USEFULL, and Ahimsa makes the case for reusables—and the NY bill that can fund it.

🥕 The U.S. food and beverage system runs on plastic packaging, contaminating what we eat and drink with plastic particles and chemicals. ☠️ Safe, affordable, and toxic-free food and drinks can be accessible to everyone if our leaders choose to act. Tell your legislator to restrict this harmful packaging 👉 https://t.co/NreIAYNzgK

Is it just us or are trees incredible? 🐿️ Here are some fun facts about our old friends on Arbor Day and every day:
🌴 An average tree creates enough oxygen for two people to breathe for one year. (Save the trees!) 👯
🌳 Trees in urban areas have a cooling effect and can help reduce cities’ heat island effect.
🎋 Studies show that trees can help reduce stress. (Not surprised, 🤗 hug a tree already.)
🌲 Some of the oldest known living organisms in the world are trees. One named Methuselah is estimated to be 4,850+ years old. 😲
ONE tree is an entire ecosystem. The oak tree is associated with 2,300 species.
🍄 Trunks alone can hold 1 trillion organisms, including the beloved fungi.
🦉 What are your favorite things about trees?

“Research largely espousing the benefits of recycled plastics is not accounting for these environmental justice effects, like harm to communities that are already underserved.”—Erica Cirino, Comms Manager at @plasticpollutes and author of Thicker Than Water: The Quest for Solutions to the Plastic Crisis. #PlasticPollutes #BreakFreeFromPlastic

Thank you to @GreenLatinos for your statement addressing #CesarChavez violence against girls and women in the #UnitedFarmWorkers movement. This movement is bigger than one person.
🥤40% of plastics are just used ONE time, but last forever, polluting the planet and our bodies. 🥛 Unlike biodegradable materials like glass, paper, or wood, plastic never breaks down, it only breaks up into smaller pieces. These microplastics end up in Earth’s air, soil, and water; and in human and animal food and bodies, including in our brains and blood.
📈 Despite plastics’ harm, industry creates more than 400 million metric tons of plastic each year. Without action to limit plastic production, this number is expected to TRIPLE by 2060.
⌛ It’s time for change. Plastic is not something the Earth can sustain!

What if we could get it right? 🌊 The Pew Charitable Trust’s recent report on plastic pollution provided some staggering facts, but also the promise of real solutions. When we scale up reuse systems, we can stop single-use plastic pollution once and for all.
