POLICE SHIELD HONORS

Sgt. Justin Hackbarth was recently honored with the NPD Police Shield for his service, sacrifice and resilience.

One of the highest honors bestowed by the Norman Police Department, the Police Shield is awarded to an officer who is seriously or critically injured in the line of duty.

Sgt. Hackbarth continues to recover from the life-altering injuries he sustained in December 2025, when he was struck by a vehicle while outside his patrol unit responding to another incident on State Highway 9.
His injuries have required extensive medical treatment, including approximately 100 days in emergency and extended medical care. Additional procedures are still ahead as he continues his recovery.

Through determination and incredible resilience, Sgt. Hackbarth has overcome tremendous challenges and continues to move forward on a remarkable path to recovery.

We are proud to honor Sgt. Hackbarth and his perseverance. His strength and determination have been an inspiration to all of us.
