ps: regarding costs, i may still open that gofundme for any outpatient costs; inpatient costs are looking like they’ll be at least partially covered by the hospital’s fund. we’re not sure yet… the gfm could cover all the medical expenses, or a small selection of specifics. shrug

new update:

while the surgeries have gone well (swelling is down, infected tissues drained and flushed, stitches and dressings for two-three weeks), pathology results have come back indicating MSSA in my bone.

in other words, i have osteomyelitis again. after 24 years.

The surgery reportedly went well, although I didn’t hear it from the surgeon themself. The tissues and bone were seemingly not too damaged. still, they took a number of biopsies just to be sure. The biggest relief is that the pressure and swelling has reduced.

while i’ll be making an effort to return to work and college once i’ve had some time to rest and adapt to self-care at home, i still can’t guarantee that i’ll be back to my usual working pace until much of the recovery process is over.

they expect the results of the biopsies to be back on Tuesday, at which time they will take another look at my foot, flush it out, and potentially close it up before administering more targeted antibiotics.

For now though, the game is back to pain and comfort management.

supposedly, when the first incision was made on the top of my foot, it started looking better nearly immediately. both incisions have been left open so any fluids can drain naturally. In the meanwhile, my foot is also wrapped in gauze and I assume a bandage.

I have exploratory surgery tomorrow morning. Hopefully, not only will it help with the problem (drain an abscess?), but also start to explain it (surgical biopsies).

Depending on what happens, I could be in the hospital another week or two, at least.

…We’ll see, I suppose.

had a bit of a scare last night, because I suddenly developed a fever. Just a minor fever, I guess, but still potentially a problem.

I also have a heart rate monitor, because basically any physical activity spikes my heart rate. And they have me doing respiratory exercises.

- they’re taking me in for an MRI at some point
- physical therapist taught me proper walker technique
- still a sepsis risk, they upped the flow of my iv fluids

- admitted to the hospital for at least a couple days
- was trending towards sepsis but my lactic levels have reduced to a safe level
- cellulitis probably
- also, the infection is pretty bad and could still get worse
- probably starting a gofundme 😅😭 fuuuuuu
