@AnderSaba21 I would do that if we were in the middle of the pitch therefor forcing the opponents wide, but since im simulating when the ball is already wide id rather the opponent playing vertical on the side than through our press diagonally forward.
1. I Wanted to share some insight into my coaching journey and how i try to incorperate Diagonal Progression.
I've been trying to use representative design by dissecting parts of the pitch and making sure players train in their postions.

@statsbet The idea is that we start from a wide area of the pitch to try to progress diagonally inside, imagine a left back having the ball, the target is to diagonally reach the striker or far side 10
4. I also vary the start of the excerise with throw ins and also switch sides so both sides get to work. I find these exercises give more than regular rondos.
3. The idea of making the diagonal goal worth 2 points, but also including the vertical goal, was to encourage the diagonal approach but not neglect vertical progression. Therefore, the defending became natural according to the affordances of the real game.
Right footed right wingers/Wingbacks and left footed wingers/Wingbacks is so underrated except for the 1% top teams.
Wingers at low level cutting in will barely ever have the impact as a cross leading to a scramble in the box or a finish across goal.
The most simple way to put this is to imagine yourself on a pitch alone. You would not pass the ball because you are free to run to the goal. The same applies if you are free and the rest marked you simply drive forward with free touches until someone jumps to find the free man.
🚨🚨 Frenkie de Jong drops an invaluable piece of ball knowledge:
"People invented the myth that Guardiola’s Barça only played one-touch football. They played one or two touches when the situation required it."
"If you are the free man and there is no other free man, it makes no sense to pass the ball. You have to carry it, fix a defender and create a free teammate."
"I think many people do not understand football much, or they simply have a different opinion to mine. So it is difficult to agree on whether I play well or not."
"Some journalists understand football, but there are more who do not understand it than those who do."

@franciscoftbl@saundzo It can probably also help with defence since they are all used to having a player to mark in exercises. Now they have to communicate who protects the space and who goes for the players etc
@franciscoftbl I think of Messi usually dribbles through a cluster of 5 players and unconsciously also using the opponents to block off the path for the other opponents to tackle him as well.
By numbers he is in a disadvantage but in the dynamics of the moment he creates 1v1s
@franciscoftbl This information is fantastic. Will definitely implement this in my coaching.
The only thing now is how to give advice on decision making, probably to try to make it 2v3 to 2v2 by going fast in one direction essentially taking away one defender.
Thank you
