A transportation company owner was sentenced for stealing over $1M from Medicaid using phony ride invoices. The SEC’s proposal to rescind Rule 14a-8 is a blatant attempt to silence shareholders and reduce corporate accountability. Publicly traded U.S. companies that care about good governance should continue accepting shareholder proposals for annual meetings in the 2027 and respect shareholders’ rights during this period of regulatory uncertainty.

My office has designated 15 local governments in fiscal stress in NY during the latest round of scores. Inflation and rising operating costs are adding to the financial challenges. Local officials should be cautious when planning future budgets and use the fiscal stress monitoring system to assist their decision making.
