Album Review

Dark Lo & V Don - MADE OF GOLD (DELUXE)

https://t.co/YJtx44miBV

When Dark Lo got home in 2025, I took the time to check out Charlie Pope 2 with him and the incredible V Don. It’s a project I loved and so when I saw MADE OF GOLD was dropping between the two for 2026, I was excited. I’d been listening but being slow about getting my review done, so much so that the deluxe dropped. So I said fuck, it ima review the deluxe which I rarely do, that’s how dope this rapper/producer duo is.

Dark Lo brings descriptive and detailed street lyricism and delivers it with a flow that’s smooth, but also requires some focus to fully unlock. Not to say street content is all Dark Lo brings because he gets deeper than that, but at the core that’s what he brings. And he does it well. Like I said, Dark Lo only got back home last year and has bars filled with prison lines and stories. He’s got more experience that’s most, and it’s seen throughout MADE OF GOLD. 540 Months has Dark Lo speaking on a long list of activities, which ends with his homie catching a 540 month sentence. Then on Cabin Fever Dark Lo offers up advice for folk locked up and for those who’s people are locked up with lines like “that’s your dog put some money in his books, or it ain’t as good as it looks?” and “eat your vegetables, free my dogs out in federal, was gone 5 years still ahead of you”.

V Don stays one of the best and most consistent producers working. He’s on the list of producers that have made either zero or so few beats I wasn’t into, that it’s a minute percentage. And that continues here, with dark production that spans its own range. Chowline & Made Of Gold a offer different styles within the sound, and it’s all cohesive. The Deluxe tracks here are the last 4, 50K Easy, Lord of Lorda feat ANKHLEJOHN, Made It Work & GOAT Status. These 4 songs fit right in and you wouldn’t even know they were extras from a Deluxe. My favorites there being Made It Work & GOAT Status.

Dark Lo and V Don was a duo I had the upmost faith in, and they delivered. MADE OF GOLD is a strong step forward as Dark Lo continues to grind back into the scene. I’d guess this won’t be the last time we see V Don & Dark Lo connect and I’ll be ready and waiting for the next one!
