Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has challenged Nigerian graduates to deploy the knowledge and skills acquired through their academic pursuits to develop practical solutions to the numerous challenges confronting the country, urging them to combine innovation with integrity as they prepare to shape the nation’s future.

The governor gave the charge on Tuesday while delivering the convocation lecture at the Postgraduate Convocation Ceremony of Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, where he was also honoured with the university’s Award of Good Governance and announced cash rewards for the institution’s best graduating students.

While acknowledging the transformative impact of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, quantum computing, and digital innovation, the governor cautioned that technology alone cannot define humanity’s future without sound values and ethical leadership. As part of his support for academic excellence, Governor Abiodun announced cash rewards of ₦1.5 million for the overall best Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) student, ₦2 million for the best Master’s graduate, ₦2.5 million for the best PhD graduate, and ₦2.5 million for the overall best undergraduate student. Ogun Extends Work Palliative, Transport Allowance for Civil Servants Ogun State Governor, Prince @DapoAbiodunCON, has approved the extension of the one-day-off-duty work palliative for eligible public and civil servants in the state. The Governor has also approved the payment of a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for an additional three months, covering July to September 2026. The measures are aimed at cushioning the impact of transportation costs on workers and motivating them to continue delivering efficient and excellent service to the people of Ogun State. It will be recalled that Governor Abiodun had earlier approved the palliative measures for the period of April to June 2026 in response to the increase in the pump price of petrol. Under the renewed arrangement, the one-day-off-duty concession will not apply to officers on shift duties or personnel providing essential services. These include medical personnel, judicial service workers, teaching and non-teaching staff in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, security personnel, political office holders, accounting officers, directors, as well as other officers receiving Special Responsibility Allowances because of the nature of their responsibilities, which require their physical presence at work. A circular issued by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Iskeel Olanrewaju Saka, mni, urged all eligible workers to make the most of the arrangement while ensuring that service delivery is not compromised. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of workers and pledged to continue implementing policies that enhance productivity while easing the economic burden on the workforce.

Speaking at the THISDAY/ARISE TV Town Hall Meeting on the State Police Bill, Governor Abiodun described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a committed federalist whose support for the devolution of policing powers reflected his long-standing belief in true federalism. The governor said history would be kind to President Tinubu for demonstrating the political will to decentralise policing, noting that respected elder statesman Chief Olusegun Osoba and Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, had both attested to the President’s federalist credentials. Abiodun, however, stressed that the ongoing legislative process must answer fundamental questions about why the existing Nigeria Police Force has struggled to deliver optimal results and how both the federal and state police systems can complement each other effectively. He argued that a more efficient state police system would inevitably lead to more arrests and prosecutions, making it imperative to strengthen the judiciary to guarantee speedy trials and justice. Abiodun Appoints Six New Permanent Secretaries to Boost Ogun Civil Service Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the appointment of six new Permanent Secretaries in a move aimed at strengthening the leadership capacity of the state’s Civil/Public Service and sustaining ongoing public sector reforms. The appointments, announced on Friday by the Head of Service, Mr. I.O. Saka, fill vacancies created by the statutory retirement of former Permanent Secretaries. The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are Dr. Solomon Oluseyi Sokunbi, Mr. Abiodun Oladunjoye Akinwunmi, Mr. Adedeji Akanbi Sowunmi, Mr. Olumide Olusola Ogunbo, Mr. Dolamu Isaiah Idowu-Agida and Tpl. Musinat Abiola Ayodele. According to the Head of Service, the appointments were made by the governor in line with Section 208(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), following due consideration of merit, professionalism and inclusiveness. He explained that all six appointees successfully completed the Ogun State Pipeline Leadership Development Programme, a prerequisite for appointment into the state’s top public service leadership positions, including the office of Permanent Secretary. Before their elevation, Dr. Sokunbi served as Director of Hospital Services in the Ministry of Health; Mr. Akinwunmi was Director of Chieftaincy Affairs in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Mr. Sowunmi was Director of Investments in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments; Mr. Ogunbo served as Project Manager of the Ogun State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSAN); Mr. Idowu-Agida was Director of Administration and Supplies in the Bureau of Government House and General Services; while Tpl. Ayodele served as Director of Urban Development in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. Saka said the appointments form part of the Abiodun administration’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring a more efficient, responsive and result-oriented Civil/Public Service. He added that the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries had been charged to exhibit exemplary leadership, integrity, dedication and selflessness in the discharge of their duties in line with the administration’s Building Our Future Together Agenda. “The appointees are expected to contribute meaningfully to the continued transformation of the Ogun State Civil/Public Service and support the delivery of effective governance for the benefit of the people,” the statement said. The Head of Service added that Governor Abiodun would swear in the new Permanent Secretaries at a date to be announced.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the appointment of six new Permanent Secretaries in a move aimed at strengthening the leadership capacity of the state’s Civil/Public Service and sustaining ongoing public sector reforms.

The appointments, announced on Friday by the Head of Service, Mr. I.O. Saka, fill vacancies created by the statutory retirement of former Permanent Secretaries.

The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are Dr. Solomon Oluseyi Sokunbi, Mr. Abiodun Oladunjoye Akinwunmi, Mr. Adedeji Akanbi Sowunmi, Mr. Olumide Olusola Ogunbo, Mr. Dolamu Isaiah Idowu-Agida and Tpl. Musinat Abiola Ayodele.

According to the Head of Service, the appointments were made by the governor in line with Section 208(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), following due consideration of merit, professionalism and inclusiveness.

He explained that all six appointees successfully completed the Ogun State Pipeline Leadership Development Programme, a prerequisite for appointment into the state’s top public service leadership positions, including the office of Permanent Secretary.

Before their elevation, Dr. Sokunbi served as Director of Hospital Services in the Ministry of Health; Mr. Akinwunmi was Director of Chieftaincy Affairs in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Mr. Sowunmi was Director of Investments in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments; Mr. Ogunbo served as Project Manager of the Ogun State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSAN); Mr. Idowu-Agida was Director of Administration and Supplies in the Bureau of Government House and General Services; while Tpl. Ayodele served as Director of Urban Development in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Saka said the appointments form part of the Abiodun administration’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring a more efficient, responsive and result-oriented Civil/Public Service.

He added that the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries had been charged to exhibit exemplary leadership, integrity, dedication and selflessness in the discharge of their duties in line with the administration’s Building Our Future Together Agenda.

“The appointees are expected to contribute meaningfully to the continued transformation of the Ogun State Civil/Public Service and support the delivery of effective governance for the benefit of the people,” the statement said.

The Head of Service added that Governor Abiodun would swear in the new Permanent Secretaries at a date to be announced.

OGUN DISMISSES VIRAL PROSTRATION ALLEGATION AS MALICIOUS PROPAGANDA The attention of the Ogun State Government has been drawn to a malicious publication by a blog known as Naijamixed, titled “Cabinet members reportedly prostrate before Ogun State Governor when he is displeased with them.” The claim that members of the Ogun State Executive Council routinely prostrate before Governor Dapo Abiodun whenever he is displeased with them is a complete fabrication. At no time has any commissioner or cabinet member been required to prostrate before the Governor, nor has such an incident ever occurred. Even more ridiculous is the claim that the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, prostrates before the Governor. Such a falsehood exposes the reckless and irresponsible nature of the publication. Professional journalism is founded on facts, verification and fairness. Unfortunately, Naijamixed abandoned these principles in favour of sensationalism, deliberate falsehood and calculated mischief aimed at ridiculing the Governor and creating unnecessary tension in Ogun State. To support its false narrative, the blog deliberately distorted a widely reported incident involving the state’s local government chairmen. Following the unfounded allegations made by the former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Hon. Wale Adedayo, against the Ogun State Government, the chairmen voluntarily appealed to Governor Abiodun on behalf of their colleague. In line with Yoruba culture, they prostrated while pleading for forgiveness. At no time did Governor Abiodun request, direct or encourage anyone to prostrate before him. The gesture was entirely voluntary. It is also a matter of public record that the allegations made by Hon. Adedayo were investigated by the Ogun State House of Assembly, while the Joint Account and Allocation Committee (JAAC) confirmed that local government allocations were disbursed through the statutory process and that the Ogun State Government did not divert local government funds. Indeed, the State had, on several occasions, supplemented local government finances to enable the councils meet their obligations. The incident received extensive media coverage at the time. It is therefore surprising that Naijamixed has chosen, years later, to resurrect the episode and deliberately distort the facts in an apparent attempt to demonise the Governor and mislead the public. Freedom of expression does not include the freedom to fabricate stories or incite the public through deliberate falsehood. The Ogun State Government therefore urges members of the public to disregard this malicious publication and rely instead on credible sources of information. Given the inflammatory nature of this publication, the appropriate security agencies are urged to investigate its source and those behind it, with a view to preventing any attempt to create unnecessary tension or undermine the peace currently enjoyed in Ogun State.
