Local 153 represents workers throughout NYC at higher ed institutions (including student workers!). We join other unions at being appalled by the unnecessary bill, Intro 175-B. We stand with students AND workers who don’t want their freedom of speech or assembly infringed on.
As a labor union, we represent over 8,000 doctors in NYC—and we are deeply concerned about how restrictions on free speech would impact our members, our teaching hospitals, and our city.
We also call on @NYCMayor Mamdani to veto Intro 175-B.

At a time when our members are under increasing attacks, we must come together to organize to fight back. We cannot accept infringements on free speech, efforts to limit protests, or threats to workers' rights.
We urge the Mayor to veto 175-B.

Yesterday, @ksr_united marked three weeks on strike. AWU member Francis Blesso joined our union family to rally in Boston and show our union’s unwavering solidarity with our fellow tech workers as they fight for the strong second contract they deserve! #1u
Congrats to the Temple Resident Assistants and Peer Mentors on UNANIMOUSLY voting to form a union with @opeiu153, the first group of undergrad workers to organize at a public university in Pennsylvania! It’s #BetterInAUnion https://t.co/qa6H8ufW3G
Congratulations to the resident assistants at Temple University who won their union election to join @opeiu153 and are the first undergraduate employees at a public university in Pennsylvania to organize a union. https://t.co/7TppUMiu6O
Today I was proud to stand with @ksr_united@opeiu153 as they launched their strike.
These workers have been negotiating for 6 months to secure pay increases and a 4 day work week. I hope management comes to the table soon to deliver a fair contract!
“People may call our demand for a four-day workweek extravagant,” said Jurado, the @ksr_united organizer based in New York. “People probably said that to the people who wanted the five-day workweek, right?”

‼️🚨KICKSTARTER WORKERS ARE ON STRIKE🚨‼️
As of 8am this morning, the workers of Kickstarter United/OPEIU Local 153 are on strike.
WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR A BOYCOTT! Creators and allies, please continue using and supporting the platform.
“[Kickstarter management] would like the unilateral power to change working hours back to a five day work week if a business need arises … without any compensation for the additional labor hours. That’s not how it works with a union”
