There's a buzz in the air as we're only 6 days away from FIFA World Cup 2026™ Toronto! From living rooms to the stands and to the pitch, OPG is ready to superpower the passion this summer. Toronto's soccer moment is almost here.
Meet the engineers set to superpower Ontario's future!
This month, 47 new engineering graduates were welcomed to OPG and got their first glimpse of life at the company.
During their onboarding at the Darlington Energy Complex, the talented grads connected with OPG engineers, received training, and prepared to begin their exciting journeys. A few also shared what attracted them to OPG and what they're most looking forward to.
Interested in joining their ranks? See how you can help superpower the future at https://t.co/UQpgmv3Cmq.
Who's superpowering the passion at OPG? Meet Rick, Head of Creative, soccer nut, and currently torn between allegiances. Will it be Canada or Portugal? We'll have to see on game day!
Meet mechanical technician Heather Ferguson, who currently works at OPG’s Chenaux Generating Station in southeastern Ontario.
She has a simple message to young people trying to get into the trades: Don’t ever give up. It's a message she has taken to heart over her own career.
After finishing college and completing co-ops in the mining industry, she expanded her trades skillset before landing an apprenticeship as a millwright and eventually a role at OPG.
“I didn’t really know what I wanted to do at first. But then I really found my calling on tools and equipment," she says. Read her story: https://t.co/SbCT2C0J8z
Hydro and nuclear superpower life in Ontario. Together, they meet ~75% of the province's electricity needs, providing the reliable, clean, and affordable foundation for the future.
OPG is now working to strengthen this backbone of our grid. We're refurbishing and redeveloping our hydro and nuclear stations. We're constructing the G7's first Small Modular Reactor. And we're exploring new nuclear and hydro generation for the future.
Together, hydro and nuclear will remain the power couple that makes Ontario an energy superpower.
This summer, OPG is super powering your soccer passion! As an Official Toronto World Cup Host City Supporter, we’re hosting watch parties where friends, families, and neighbours can come together to catch the match and enjoy fun, interactive activities.
Grab your crew and join us for an OPG Community Watch Party in Cornwall, Thunder Bay, Darlington, or Pickering. Attendance is free, but space is limited and registration is required - sign up today: https://t.co/wiyovsdAOo
The countdown is on ⚽ We're only 14 days away from kick-off in Toronto. As an Official Toronto World Cup 2026 Host City Supporter, OPG is ready to superpower the passion this summer. Are you getting hyped yet?
You’d be hard-pressed to find someone more passionate about welding than OPG’s Erik Dickerson.
It started in Grade 6 when his dad brought him to a neighbour’s garage to watch a trailer being welded. One spark, and he was hooked.
Today, Erik is paying that moment forward. As a teacher, mentor, and proud trades advocate, he’s helping the next generation discover the power of skilled trades while keeping OPG’s Chats Falls hydro station running strong as a Trades Management Supervisor.
“When you become obsessed with something you love, it’s no longer work,” he says.

Nuclear superpowers healthcare.
From sterilizing medical devices to diagnosing and treating illnesses like cancer, nuclear medicine helps save lives and protects the health of millions here and around the world.
And it wouldn't be possible without Ontario’s nuclear generating fleet, which produces the critical isotopes that enable powerful treatments and diagnostics.
It’s one more reason Ontario’s electricity is our superpower.
On International Day for Biological Diversity, OPG is proud to spotlight our decades-long partnership with @DUContario (DUC).
What began as a major wetland restoration project at OPG’s Lennox Generating Station in 1981 has grown into a meaningful collaboration that’s helped conserve and restore important wetlands across Ontario — supporting biodiversity while also strengthening natural flood mitigation.
In 2020, OPG collaborated with TC Energy to expand the Lennox wetland habitat near Napanee, a priority region for wildlife conservation. Developed with consultation from DUC, the wetland now helps manage nearby agricultural runoff while also serving as a habitat oasis for waterfowl and other birds, including herons.
Public Notice 📢 A barge is now in place south of Pickering Nuclear Station until early June to support continued geotechnical assessments for the refurbishment planning. A refurbished Pickering will play an important role in supporting the province's future growth and electrification. Learn more: https://t.co/J9jdr3c7IE
In this #HeritageHighlight, we go back to the 1960s when a true nuclear pioneer began to take shape on the shores of Lake Ontario.
Construction on OPG's Pickering Nuclear Generating Station started in 1965, kicking off a legacy of clean, reliable power that continues to this very day. The station's first units began producing power in 1971, with more units coming online through the '70s and '80s.
Today, we're writing the next chapter in Pickering Nuclear's story as we plan for the refurbishment of the station's Units 5 to 8. Ontario's next major nuclear refurbishment project will secure more than 2,100 MW of clean, reliable power and create thousands of jobs. Congratulations to OPG subsidiary @aturapower on the commissioning of the new Napanee Battery Energy Storage System. This is an important step to enhancing the reliability and resilience of Ontario's grid for the years ahead.
Ontario’s Integrated Energy Plan lays the groundwork for economic growth for the next 25 years. A key feature of this plan is building Canada’s largest energy storage fleet.
After completing a series of nuclear and transmission projects on time and on budget, @ricbresee_mpp, @tylerallsoppPC, @davidsmithmpp, and I were proud to announce another successful project at the Atura Napanee Battery Energy Storage System.

At OPG's Wesleyville site in Port Hope, we're boring deep into the ground to assess the site for its potential nuclear future.
As part of the first phase of the project's Impact Assessment, OPG is working with E.S. Fox, Indigenous-owned Voyageur Services, and other local companies to conduct a geotechnical and hydrogeological borehole campaign. The geotechnical campaign aims to bore at 40 locations across the site, reaching depths of between 60 to 120 metres, and is expected to wrap up later this summer.
Other ongoing work includes surveys of the area’s vegetation, birds, and wildlife, aquatic and surface-water assessments, as well as archaeological, socio-economic, and traffic studies.
This important work is helping advance a potential project that could provide up to 10,000 MW of new nuclear generation for Ontario's clean energy future.

Heading outdoors this Victoria Day long weekend? If you’re spending time near waterways, please be mindful — levels and flows can change quickly. Stay well back from shorelines and keep a close eye on kids and pets.
Stay clear, stay safe.
From nuclear and hydro refurbishments to the G7's first commercial SMR, there's a lot happening at OPG. We need your superpowers to build for the future. Do you have what it takes to help us electrify life? Find your calling at https://t.co/ZF3gB8Cy4Y.
Meet the colossal crane doing the heavy lifting for the first Small Modular Reactor in the G7.
The largest crawler crane in Canada recently completed a major lift as it hoisted and placed the close to 2.1-million-pound Basemat module – the foundation of the reactor building.
Now, this crane is ready to do even more heavy lifting for the project. Learn more: https://t.co/SRGs68FsFi
Ever wonder what OPG's Small Modular Reactor will look like? OPG's Advanced Manufacturing team brought the G7's first SMR to life with a 3D-printed model – giving a glimpse of what's being built right now at Darlington.
Last month, the first SMR unit's foundation was lowered into place on site – a major milestone for a project that will power 300,000 homes once completed.
It's another way Ontario is putting innovation into action to work better, smarter, and help envision the future.
