أشعر بقلق بالغ إزاء الهجمات الأخيرة التي شنّتها أنصار الله على المخا، والتي أسفرت، بحسب التقارير، عن سقوط ضحايا مدنيين وعسكريين، وإلحاق أضرار بالبنية التحتية، بما في ذلك في الميناء.

تأتي هذه الهجمات في خضمّ تصعيدٍ غير مسبوق للعمليات العسكرية منذ الهدنة التي توسطت فيها الأمم المتحدة عام 2022، مما يزيد بشكل حاد من خطر عودة نزاع واسع النطاق في اليمن. كما عرّضت هجمات أنصار الله الأخيرة المدنيين لخطر جسيم في المخا ومأرب ومناطق أخرى. يجب أن يتوقف هذا التصعيد، وأن تتم حماية المدنيين والبنية التحتية المدنية.

أدعو الأطراف إلى ممارسة أقصى درجات ضبط النفس، والعمل مع مكتبي لاتخاذ خطوات ملموسة لخفض التصعيد ومنع المزيد من تآكل ما حققته الهدنة للمدنيين اليمنيين. لا يمكن إنهاء هذا النزاع على نحو مستدام إلا من خلال عملية سياسية جامعة، فالتصعيد يدفع اليمن في الاتجاه المعاكس.

I am deeply concerned by the recent attacks by Ansar Allah on Mokha, which reportedly resulted in civilian and military casualties and caused damage to infrastructure, including at the port.

These attacks come amid the most significant intensification of military activity since the 2022 UN-brokered truce, sharply increasing the risk of a return to full-scale conflict in Yemen. The recent Ansar Allah attacks have also put civilians at grave risk in Mokha, Marib, and beyond. This escalation must stop, and civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected.

I call on the parties to exercise maximum restraint,and to work with my Office on concrete steps to de-escalate and prevent the further erosion of what the truce achieved for Yemeni civilians. This conflict can only end sustainably through an inclusive political process, and escalation is taking Yemen in the opposite direction.

عمّان، 7 آب/أغسطس 2026- يواجه اليمن اليوم خطراً متزايداً من العودة إلى صراع واسع النطاق،على نحو لم يشهده منذ الهدنة التي توسطت فيها الأمم المتحدة في نيسان/أبريل 2022. تأتي الهجمات الأخيرة التي شنتها أنصار الله في مأرب وحضرموت، وأسفرت، وفقاً للتقارير، عن عدد كبير من الضحايا، بمن فيهم مدنيون، بالإضافة إلى تجدد الهجمات على السفن التجارية في البحر الأحمر وخليج عدن. كما يساورني القلق إزاء الضربات التي استهدفت البنية التحتية المدنية، بما في ذلك المطارات، وتصاعد التوترات الإقليمية. وتُهدد هذه التطورات مجتمعةً مكاسب هدنة 2022، التي انعكست على الهدوء النسبي الذي ساد اليمن في السنوات الأخيرة، كما تهدد بجرّ البلاد إلى مواجهة إقليمية أوسع، ولما لذلك من عواقب وخيمة على شعبه.

خلال الأسابيع الماضية، تواصلتُ بشكل مكثف مع الأطراف اليمنية والجهات الفاعلة الإقليمية والشركاء الدوليين لاستكشاف خيارات عملية لخفض التصعيد وتغيير المسار الحالي. وما زلت مقتنعاً بأن المسار الدبلوماسي لا يزال متاحاً. لكنّ ذلك يتطلب إرادة سياسية، وخيارات صعبة، ومشاركة حقيقية من الأطراف. يُقدّم هذا النهج السبيل الواقعي الوحيد لمعالجة الشواغل الأساسية للأطراف، مع تحقيق فوائد ملموسة لليمنيين، تتمثل في: خفض التصعيد العسكري، وتحسين الاستقرار الاقتصادي؛ بما في ذلك حرية تنقل الأفراد، وحركة البضائع، واتخاذ خطوات نحو عملية سياسية جامعة، قادرة على إنهاء النزاع بصورة شاملة.

أدعو الأطراف إلى ممارسة أقصى درجات ضبط النفس، ووقف أي أعمال تُشجع على الرد العسكري، والانخراط في مفاوضات بحسن نية تحت رعاية الأمم المتحدة. وبدعم من الجهات الفاعلة الإقليمية والشركاء الدوليين، يحافظ هذا المسار على فرصة التوصل إلى حل تفاوضي. وستواصل الأمم المتحدة دعم الأطراف والوقوف إلى جانب الشعب اليمني في مساعيه لإنهاء النزاع بالطرق السلمية.

Statement attributable to the UN Special Envoy for Yemen – Hans Grundberg on the situation in Yemen

Amman, 7 August 2026 - Yemen today faces a greater risk of renewed large-scale conflict than at any point since the UN-brokered truce of April 2022. The latest attacks by Ansar Allah in Ma’rib and Hadramawt, which reportedly caused significant casualties, including civilians, add to the renewed attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. I am also concerned by strikes on civilian infrastructure, including airports, and heightened regional tensions. Taken together, these developments risk jeopardizing the gains of the 2022 truce, reflected in the relative calm that has held inside Yemen in recent years, while also drawing the country into a broader regional confrontation, with devastating consequences for its people.

Over these past weeks, I have engaged intensively with the Yemeni parties, regional actors and international partners to explore concrete options for de-escalation and reversing the current trajectory. I remain convinced that a diplomatic path remains available. It will require political will, difficult choices and genuine engagement from the parties. This approach offers the only realistic path to addressing the core concerns of the parties, while delivering tangible benefits for Yemenis: military de-escalation; improved economic stability, including with regard to freedom of movement for people and goods; and steps toward an inclusive political process that can comprehensively end the conflict.

I call on the parties to exercise maximum restraint, stop actions that encourage military retaliation, and engage in good-faith negotiations under United Nations auspices. With the support of regional actors and international partners, such a path preserves the opportunity for a negotiated way out. The United Nations will continue to support the parties and stand with the Yemeni people in the pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg spoke with Yemen's newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Afrah Al-Zouba @afrah_alzouba, today. He congratulated her on her appointment and wished her every success in her new role.

They exchanged views on the latest developments in Yemen and the wider, including the importance of shielding Yemen from being drawn further into regional tensions. They also discussed priorities for advancing a just, comprehensive political solution that serves the interests of all Yemenis. The Special Envoy reaffirmed his commitment to supporting a political process to achieve sustainable peace in Yemen.

Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General - on the renewed threats to maritime navigation in the Red Sea

The Secretary-General is deeply alarmed about the resumption of Houthi attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea and the renewed threats to maritime navigation.

The attack on commercial vessels, claimed by the Houthis, risks further heightening regional tensions and widening the current cycle of escalation with the potential to draw Yemen deeper into regional conflict. Further hostilities in Yemen will undermine prospects for peace, and cause serious economic, humanitarian and environmental consequences across and beyond the region.

The Secretary-General calls for immediate de-escalation and urges Houthis to refrain from any further attacks or other escalatory actions, in line with Security Council resolution 2722 (2024) and subsequent relevant resolutions concerning attacks against commercial vessels and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. International navigational rights and freedoms in and around Bab al-Mandab must be fully restored.

على مدى الأسابيع الماضية، عقدتُ سلسلة مكثفة من اللقاءات والمشاورات مع أطراف يمنية وجهات فاعلة إقليمية ودولية. وفي ظل تصاعد التوترات، تظل أولويتي الحفاظ على مكتسبات هدنة عام 2022، ومنع العودة إلى صراع أوسع نطاقاً، وتهيئة الظروف اللازمة لعملية سياسية شاملة.

Statement by the UN Special Envoy on recent escalation

Amman, July 23, 2026 - I am alarmed by the resumption of attacks by Ansar Allah on commercial shipping and the renewed disruption of maritime navigation in the Red Sea.

Over the past weeks, I have engaged intensively with Yemeni, regional and international stakeholders. Amid deepening tensions, my priority remains to preserve the gains of the 2022 truce, prevent a return to wider conflict, and create the conditions for an inclusive political process.

Escalatory actions risk putting Yemen on a path toward further confrontation, drawing the country deeper into an already volatile regional environment, and deepening the suffering of the Yemeni people. It is still possible to change course and move towards negotiations that address Yemen’s political, economic and security challenges and put the interests of its people at the centre. A negotiated political settlement in Yemen would also contribute to greater stability in the region.

"Also on a related note, we have seen the reports and are very much concerned by the renewed Houthi threats against Saudi Arabia, against freedom of navigation, and the risk of an even wider regional escalation.
We call for immediate de-escalation. We urge all parties to address their differences through dialogue and diplomacy.

We reiterate that Security Council resolution 2722 (2024) and subsequent resolutions related to Houthi attacks against merchant and commercial vessels must be fully respected."
