June is National Indigenous History Month. This is a time for people in Canada to come together and celebrate First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples; a time to reflect on, listen and learn from the diverse experiences and knowledge of Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island and recognize their contributions - past and present.
For many Canadians, the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada was, and in some cases still is - unknown due to a history of colonization. We use this month as a time to reflect on the past and look to the future.
Together we can amplify the voices and strengths of Indigenous youth, leaders and communities by highlighting their contributions and showing up to affirm calls for change.

Was great to join CTF colleagues in attendance as well!

Amidst #OntEd’s teacher recruitment & retention crisis, the Ford govt has “deliberately doubled down on a test they knew would have disproportionate impacts & lead to uneven outcomes,” says OTF President & Table Officer @oectagovernor.

Today, OTF President Chris Cowley joined @ChandraPasma, parents, and education advocates to send a clear message to Minister Calandra that Bill 101 is the wrong direction for our education system and our students.
The Minister was called on to listen to those that know our classrooms best.
No money for education.
No money for kids.
No money for social services.
But somehow there’s money for spin and “connected and convenient care.”
That’s the Ford government’s budget in a nutshell: slogans over students, optics over people #ontpoli
Again…No consultation with OTF and teachers on issues that take away from teacher autonomy and removes professional judgment risking successful implementations for students.
OTF President Chris Cowley stands with Affiliate Presidents and OSBCU President speaking out against the government’s latest announcement on limiting trustees and mandating teacher resources.
Another of the government’s latest distractions from the real issues faced by Ontario’s public education system.
