Regional & District tribunals would have jurisdiction over criminal matters mainly to relieve the traditional courts of part of their criminal caseload enabling them to devote greater attention to civil matters with the aim of improving justice delivery.
While Dr. Ayine (MP, Bolgatanga East) acknowledged the concerns expressed over the reintroduction of tribunals in the legal system of Ghana, he further explained that Bill adopts a fundamentally different approach where tribunals are situated within the constitutional framework.
