It was a unique four days of intensive deliberations as I led the National Working Committee of our great party to Maiduguri in a four-day Retreat, graciously hosted by the Government of Borno State. In the historic city of Maiduguri, we gathered under the theme, “Strengthening Party Organisation, Unity and Electoral Readiness Towards 2027,” to reflect on the state of our party, examine the challenges before us and chart a clear and strategic course for the future. It was a period of deep reflection, constructive engagement and renewed commitment to the task of building an even stronger APC.

The Retreat brought together members of the National Working Committee, State Chairmen and other critical stakeholders from across the country. Our discussions were candid, robust and forward-looking, focusing particularly on strengthening our party structures, deepening unity and cohesion, improving internal organisation and sharpening our electoral preparedness ahead of 2027. We recognised that a strong political party is built not only during elections, but through sustained organisation, effective leadership, constant engagement with its members and a shared sense of purpose.

As we conclude this important Retreat, we return to our various responsibilities with renewed energy, clearer perspectives and a stronger resolve to deliver on the mandate entrusted to us. I am particularly grateful to the Government and people of Borno State for their exceptional hospitality and warmth throughout our stay. From Maiduguri, we move forward with one common purpose: a stronger, more united and better-organised APC, committed to consolidating the gains of the Renewed Hope Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and securing victory for our party and its candidates in 2027.

As part of the ongoing National Strategic Retreat of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the 195th meeting of the Party's National Working Committee (NWC) was held today in Maiduguri, Borno State.

At the ongoing APC National Strategic Retreat, themed “Strengthening Party Organization, Unity and Electoral Readiness Towards 2027,” holding in Maiduguri, Borno State, from Thursday, 24th to Saturday, 26th September 2026, the Party’s National Working Committee, under the chairmanship of Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, is joined by State Chairmen and other invited stakeholders of the Party’s core structure from across the 36 states.

Discussions at the strategic retreat are focused on reviewing and strengthening the Party’s activities, structures and electoral preparedness ahead of the 2027 campaigns and the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the election of other APC candidates.

The National Treasury that President Tinubu has built strong is what Atiku desires to scatter and plunder under the cover of his fake and unrealistic promise to restore the ruinous fuel subsidy regime.

In his book, My Watch, President Olusegun Obasanjo characterized Atiku as possessing a propensity for corruption, a tendency toward disloyalty, poor judgment, and a readiness to sacrifice the national interest for selfish gains. In August 2026, Obasanjo described his decision to select Atiku as his running mate in 1999 as the biggest mistake of his presidency. He stated, “The man I picked as my running mate, my number two, if I had known him as I came to know him later, I would not have picked him.” That is an open and shut reference by the former President, Atiku’s principal, to his unfitness for public office.

Atiku was an accidental Vice President, and categorically unfit for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

2027: WHY NIGERIANS MUST KEEP ATIKU AWAY FROM THE NATIONAL TREASURY

The media and public discourse have been awash with damning reports of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s alleged dealings in local and international bribery and corruption schemes.

Ghosts of his sordid past continue, restlessly, to haunt and warn that Atiku must never again be allowed anywhere close to such a commanding position of trust and responsibility as the presidency. As a former public official, Atiku’s record is an executive summary of some of Nigeria’s vilest episodes of corruption and cronyism that pulverized our economy and decimated public trust.

Nigeria’s upcoming presidential election presents the electorate the opportunity to deal a final blow to Atiku’s desperate quest for presidential power, and save the country from his ravenous plunder.

From the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project and the Siemens bribery scandal to the William Jefferson case, the PTDF funds controversy, and the US Senate investigation into suspicious financial transactions, Atiku’s name is engraved ingloriously on files and dossiers of onshore and offshore financial scandals and atrocities.

These are not mere allegations. They are matters that are well documented in official records, tribunal proceedings, government investigations, national and foreign legislative reports, and international financial inquiries. Together, they raise legitimate questions about the fitness for probity and accountability of this serial presidential contender.

The latest controversy surrounding the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project is particularly troubling. An International Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Tribunal in Paris examined a $500,000 payment made in January 2003 by Leno Adesanya, promoter of Sunrise Power, to Jennifer Douglas, Atiku’s wife at the time, through an offshore company. Reportedly, the payment occurred around the period when the Mambilla contract was awarded with Atiku as Vice President. Atiku declined an opportunity to explain and justify what clearly was an illegal bribe payment to his wife.

There was the Siemens bribery scandal in which US authorities alleged that Siemens paid at least $4.5 million in bribes to secure Nigerian telecommunications contracts during the Obasanjo administration, with approximately $2.8 million reportedly passing through a bank account owned by Jennifer Douglas, Atiku’s ex-wife. Siemens subsequently agreed to pay approximately $1.6 billion in penalties to US and German authorities over global bribery violations. Again, Atiku’s Vice Presidential soiled fingerprints in focus.

And there was the William Jefferson bribery case with Atiku and his close associates falling under the scrutiny of American investigators. US court records indicated that former Congressman William Jefferson disclosed paying Atiku $100,000 to influence a proposed business partnership involving iGate and Netlink Digital Television. Jefferson was eventually convicted and sentenced to prison. Again, Atiku’s dark web of corrupt influence peddling and abuse of office on display.

The 2010 report of the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations that linked Atiku and his ex-wife, Jennifer Douglas, to more than $40 million in suspicious funds transferred into the United States through offshore companies and lodged in over 30 shadowy bank accounts associated with ex-wife, Jennifer Douglas and her family, again tells a sordid tale of a man that cannot be trusted with the nation’s treasury.

Atiku’s sudden u-turn from his 2023 policy position in favour of fuel subsidy removal to his new promise to restore the fuel subsidy regime, if elected, must be understood as his latest device to lay his hands on, and squander, the country’s 18-year foreign reserve high of over $54 billion built up from $3 billion by President Bola Tinubu in less than four years through bold and prudent economic reforms.

Representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, led by Chancellor Wan Ji and the Director General of the China Centre for Contemporary Studies, paid a courtesy visit to the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) today.

The delegation was received by the Party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, accompanied by members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

The visit featured discussions on strengthening cooperation between the APC and the Chinese Communist Party, as well as deepening bilateral relations between the Nigerian and Chinese governments.

The victorious candidates are Hon. Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a of Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, Gombe State; Hon. Husseini Datti of Dawakin Kudu State Constituency, Kano State; Hon. Okolosi Ator of Udu State Constituency, Delta State; and Hon. Yakubu Ali of Disina State Constituency, Bauchi State.

This massive win is a solid demonstration of the Party’s organisational strength, grassroots support, and the confidence reposed in the APC by the electorate. Coming ahead of the 2027 general elections, the results demonstrate our Party’s wide acceptance, and strengthens our resolve to work assiduously for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all candidates of our great Party across the country.

PETER OBI HAS NOWHERE TO HIDE OVER HIS POOR ANAMBRA RECORD

In the past four years, Mr Peter Obi and his supporters packaged Obi's tenure as Anambra governor as one defined by exceptional fiscal prudence, including the claim that he left Anambra without a debt burden. Obi himself was presented as a squeaky-clean politician.

But it has all emerged as a well-packaged lie.

The facade of falsehood built around Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, has now been torn to shreds, with Obi's persona deconstructed after disclosures by the Anambra State Government, which responded to Obi's challenge to verify his record.

According to the Anambra State Government, the former governor spent about USD 4.05 billion, or N5.4 trillion, over his eight years in office and contracted USD 123.77 million in external loans.

The state also revealed that, as of when Obi left office on March 17, 2014, there were eight different external borrowings for malaria, erosion control, education, and healthcare, and that subsequent administrations, including Governor Chukwuma Soludo's, continued to service the debt.

Borrowing is not injudicious if used for development. But for a man who prides himself on being austere and has frequently claimed he left the state with a clean bill of health, the revelations confirmed what has long been held: Obi is an irredeemable liar, a mediocre governor, unfit for leadership anywhere.

Even more confounding is that despite these borrowings, Obi has nothing to show for his stewardship across Anambra's sectors. He failed to pay workers' salaries in some ministries. Water Corporation staff were among those who protested over unpaid salaries.

In a memo to Obi, dated April 25, 2006, Chuks Ileogbunam, Obi's Chief of Staff, pleaded with the governor to pay the Water Corporation workers' N15m monthly salary to avoid protests at the Governor's office over unpaid salaries. Obi was then spending his second month in office.

"Since it is your excellency's unchanging desire to achieve a better future for our children and children's children, please, Sir, bear in mind that officials of the Water Corporation also have children who are looking to your compassionate leadership. The President listens with compassion to your appeals on behalf of the children of Anambra. I am 200 per cent sure that you will hearken to the cries of the children whose parents work for the Water Corporation and end their ordeal," Ileogunam pleaded in the memo.

Just as Obi promised to quit the presidential race if it was proven that he left a debt burden for Anambra State, the letter revealed that Obi had similarly promised Anambra people during his campaign that he would resign as governor "if there is any case where workers are not paid as and when due." Of course, he never meant to. He only deceived people into voting for him. When he left office in 2014, he left his successors with heavier arrears to clear.

We advise Obi to purge himself of his lies and seek the forgiveness of the Anambra people instead of galloping around platforms, parroting inanities. What should even be more concerning for Obi's followers is Obi's recent solidarity visit to someone facing an EFCC trial for unexplained wealth and monumental corruption.

Indeed, if Peter Obi has any honour, he must resign from the 2027 presidential race forthwith, in keeping with his promise to end his run if it is proven that his administration left behind liabilities in Anambra.

PARIS ICC ARBITRATION COURT RULING: ATIKU ABUBAKAR UNFIT FOR NIGERIA'S PRESIDENCY

Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress candidate, is unfit to be President of Nigeria because he has once again proven he will compromise Nigeria’s best interests for personal, fiduciary gain.

Abubakar’s legendary corruption reverberated in Paris at the International Arbitration Tribunal under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Hearings in the arbitration filed by Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Ltd (Sunrise) and Leno Adesanya over the stalled 3960mw Mambila Hydroelectric Power Project in Taraba State revealed that Abubakar and former power minister Olu Agunloye worked in cahoots to sign an illegal power contract with Sunrise.

The backdoor signing of the contract in the dying days of then President Olusegun Obasanjo’s first term, when Atiku wielded enormous power, put Nigeria in a serious financial peril, despite President Obasanjo’s objection and reservations at the Federal Executive Council meeting. 

Atiku’s greed, however, propelled him to disobey the council and President Obasanjo, months after Leno Adesanya, through an offshore account, China Castle Investment, wired $500,000 to the US Citibank account of his now-divorced wife, Jennifer Douglas. The money arrived in tranches, raising red flags at Citibank and in the United States. The wired money and other suspicious transfers totalling $40 million surfaced in a US Senate investigation into Atiku and other corrupt leaders.  In the US Senate report titled Keeping Foreign Corruption out of the United States: Four Case Histories, Jennifer said her husband sent the money. She said she was not familiar with the offshore company that wired the money.

Atiku’s treasonable act, after the Nigerian government declined to go ahead with the illegal contract, led Sunrise and Leno Adesanya to make a claim against the Federal Republic of Nigeria, demanding $680 million as a settlement sum and interest in respect of another arbitration in which it is claiming over $2.7 billion in compensation and interest relating to disputes associated with the development of the Mambilla  Hydro Power project.

As the ICC Paris Tribunal concluded: "There is a close connection in time between the moment the USD 500,000 payment was made to the wife of Vice-President Abubakar on 30 January 2003 and the alleged award of the BOT contract to Sunrise on 22 May 2003."

Nigeria fought valiantly to dodge this huge liability, echoing a similar attempt by another rogue company, Process and Industrial Development (P&ID), to extract an $11 billion claim from our country for a phantom gas project in Akwa Ibom that the company did not spend a dime on.

By collecting a $500,000 bribe from Leno Adesanya to approve a Build-Operate-Transfer contract to a company with no scintilla of experience in hydro power generation, Atiku has proven he is one of the enablers of local and international predatory and exploitative entities out to defraud our country.

At the hearing in Paris, Atiku, to avoid embarrassment, chose to stay away to give evidence in support of Sunrise and Leno Adesanya’s specious claim that the $500,000 was a foreign exchange transaction. Although the Tribunal requested Atiku’s witness statement, Adesanya shielded Atiku and Jennifer Douglas by lying. In contrast, President Olusegun Obasanjo and President Muhammadu Buhari went to Paris to defend Nigeria and help stave off a liability that our country can ill-afford to redeem in these lean times.

The disclosure in Paris once again justified President Obasanjo's scathing remarks about Atiku’s corruption in his book, My Watch. “ What I did not know”, the former Nigerian leader wrote in the second part of the book, “which came out glaringly later, was his parental background, which was somewhat shadowy, his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time, a propensity for poor judgement, his belief and reliance on marabouts, his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out on all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety, truth and national interest for self and selfish interest.”

The APC Campaign calls on Abubakar Atiku to do himself a rare honour by bowing out of the presidential race, as the $500,000 bribe is just the tip of the iceberg of the revelations to come about his monumental corruption.

The people of Taraba State should also note that the ADC candidate, who plans to pull wool over our eyes and bamboozle his way to the presidency as a pro-petrol-subsidy candidate, is one of the people responsible for the stalled kick-off of what would have been the biggest hydro-power project in Nigeria, with many economic spin-offs for the people of the state.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) congratulates its National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Felix Chukwumenonye Morka, CON, on his recognition by the Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ) as the “Most Outstanding Political Marketing Communicator of the Year 2026.”

The coveted award, which will be conferred on the APC National Publicity Secretary at the NACJ Annual Integrity Lecture and Award Conference scheduled for Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, is a fitting recognition of Morka’s stellar contribution to the articulation and communication of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led APC administration.

As the Party’s chief spokesperson, Morka has consistently demonstrated professionalism, clarity and intellectual depth in communicating the administration’s policies, programmes and achievements, while providing informed and effective responses to issues of national importance. His communication efforts have contributed to greater public understanding of key government reforms in many areas, including economic reform, infrastructure development, food security, social investment, national security and investment promotion.

The Party also recognises Morka’s nearly four decades of distinguished service in law, human rights advocacy, public policy, urban governance and democratic consolidation. As Founder and Executive Director of the Social and Economic Rights Action Center (SERAC), former Legal Officer for Africa of the Washington, DC-based International Human Rights Law Group, and former Legal Director of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), he has built a long and distinguished record of service in human rights, public interest and social justice advocacy. A veteran champion of the rights of the urban poor, Morka’s extensive engagements with the United Nations, UNAIDS, the World Bank, African Union, and other international human rights and development institutions, alongside an LL.M from Harvard Law School, have sharpened his expertise and effectiveness as a political communicator.

His contributions to nation-building, democracy and the rule of law were further recognised in 2025 when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu conferred on him the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).

The APC commends the NACJ for recognising excellence and professionalism in political communication and congratulates Barr. Felix Morka, CON, on this well-deserved honour.

As the Party prepares for the 2027 electioneering season, the APC is confident that Morka will continue to deploy his experience, intellect and communication skills in framing and advancing the Party’s messaging objectives and effectively communicating the administration’s achievements and building greater public support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

What an electrifying moment today at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, as we welcomed a political tsunami into the All Progressives Congress (APC)!

I joined thousands of party faithful and supporters to receive former Kano State Governor and former Senator representing Kano South, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya (Mai Al-Ummah), alongside Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, associates of Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, and over 100,000 defectors from various political parties into our great party.

The sheer size, enthusiasm and energy of the gathering were unmistakable: the APC is expanding, consolidating and growing stronger in Kano.

This is more than a rally. It is a powerful statement about where the political momentum is heading ahead of 2027.

The message from Kano is loud and clear:

APC is ready. Kano is ready. Nigeria is ready.

Today, I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive the Politician of the Year Award from the iconic Daily Times Newspaper, as part of activities marking its remarkable 100 years of journalism, nation-building and service to Nigeria.

This is not just an award; it is a profound recognition that comes with a greater responsibility. To be acknowledged by an institution that has witnessed, documented and shaped a century of Nigeria’s history is both humbling and deeply inspiring. I receive this honour with gratitude, knowing that public service is ultimately measured not by titles or accolades, but by the positive difference we make in the lives of our people.

I dedicate this award to everyone who believes in my journey and continues to encourage me to serve with courage, integrity and purpose. The recognition is appreciated; the responsibility is greater. The journey continues.

My profound appreciation to the management and editorial team of the Daily Times for this honour and for keeping alive a legacy that has become an important part of Nigeria’s national story. 100 years of Daily Times is 100 years of Nigeria. Congratulations!

APC CELEBRATES VICE PRESIDENT KASHIM SHETTIMA AT 60

The All Progressives Congress (APC) heartily joins millions of Nigerians, Party faithful, and well-wishers across the globe in celebrating our dynamic Vice President, His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, on the joyous occasion of his 60th birthday anniversary.

Attaining the diamond age of 60 is a milestone marked not just by years, but by a lifetime of selfless service, profound intellect, and unyielding commitment to the progress and stability of our dear nation.

As Governor of Borno State during some of the most challenging periods in the state’s history, Senator Shettima demonstrated extraordinary courage, resilience, and compassionate governance. His commitment to infrastructure, education, and human capital development laid the groundwork for recovery and rebuilding of the entire North East geopolitical zone. Later, as a distinguished Senator representing Borno Central, his legislative contributions consistently reflected his deep passion for socio-economic development and national unity.

Consequent upon his elevation as Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Shettima continues to exemplify loyalty, strategic economic foresight, and unwavering commitment to the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration. His leadership of the National Economic Council (NEC) and active driving of crucial economic initiatives are steering our nation toward sustainable development, industrial renaissance, and prosperity for all citizens.

Our great Party commends Vice President Shettima for his intellectual depth, humility, and bridge-building disposition. He remains an invaluable pillar of the APC-led Federal Government and a source of inspiration to younger generations of African leaders.
