I still remember the trauma I felt the night robbers broke into our home around 1:30am in Nigeria. 😔💔

From our bedroom, we heard a loud, violent bang. My husband and I froze with no idea what it was. For a moment, we thought it might have been the transformer or one of my ice-making machine compressors exploding. ⚡🧊

But within seconds, we jumped out of bed… and there they were … two men standing in our living room. Two devils. 😢👹they had brought down one of the windows with a very heavy stone💔

After that night, the smallest sound in the dark would jolt me awake. Sleep became a struggle, and that fear stayed with me until the day I left Nigeria. 🌙😩

It makes me wonder: how do people who have faced repeated attacks from these evil men manage to sleep at all? And what about those who haven’t experienced it, but live every day in fear, knowing it could be their turn next? 😞🙏

My heart truly aches for them. 💔💭

At about 9am this morning, I simply walked 5 minutes from my house to my polling unit. I showed my ID, collected my ballot paper, cast my vote, and went back home peacefully.

Today’s experience showed me what democracy can look like when systems work, when institutions are trusted, and when the people are respected.
Nigeria has so much potential, but we must keep asking ourselves the hard questions about leadership, systems, and accountability.
