Shawnee State Park celebrated the dedication of the Dr. E. Lucy Braun Lookout Trail, honoring one of America’s most influential botanists.

Visitors gathered for a guided hike along the 2‑mile loop featuring new interpretive signs about Dr. Braun & the legacy of CCC Company 1545.

The pawpaw was adopted as Ohio's native fruit in 2009 & is the only edible fruit native to Ohio. It may look like a tropical fruit, but pawpaws grow naturally in forests, often along riverbanks & in shady, wet areas.

Don’t mow down milkweed plants once they have flowered! ❌
🦋 The fruit pods of milkweeds are attractive, and release their wind-borne seeds well after the plants have bloomed. American goldfinches make use of the silky hairs (comas) attached to milkweed seeds for their nests.

There's more to cicadas than their soundtrack. They spend most of their lives underground before emerging, shedding their nymphal skins & transforming into the adults we recognize. Once above ground, their main priorities are: find a mate, reproduce, & start the next generation.
