Also wanted to edit to add that SNAP spending only accounts for 1.3% of the total U.S. federal budget. That is a tiny drop in the bucket when you consider the sheer amount of families and children that are taken care of because of this program (Over 40 million people).
I've been trying to hold my tongue, but I'm just going to get this off of my chest and say this as a blanket response to some of the memes and comments I've seen from those making fun of folks who are losing SNAP benefits. A thread... 🧵
If you know struggling families in your community, please check on them if you can. Find your local food bank and donate. Even a few bucks makes a difference, or a bag of groceries. Volunteer if you can.
Instead of punching down, let's all try to lift up.
