@jakbravo_ I think being free of porn would be its own reward. Let's say you're right, all the women are worthless, you still end up better off without porn. Sadly, you aren't ready for that conversation.
@CorenLaVolpe No one advocates a rule to instantiate haves and have-nots expecting to end up in the latter. No one advocating for polygamy, or "polygny," expects to be in the ever growing pool of bachelors who will be without a wife because too many are off the market in harems.
I don't know what genre you refer to, but its irrelevant. Their popularity is irrelevant. What the masses thoughtlessly consume is at best a tangent.
No one "believes" in elves, we accept certain liberties in fantasy because they still work to serve the story. Elves are still basically humans, usually a more ideal version. It differs, author from author. Harems, as a concept, are just a gross twisting of true romantic love. Its unfitting, at least for a more noble and heroic figure, to engage in such practices. It is nothing but the invention of lustful men who refuse to give a wife their due of their undivided attention, who refuse make a choice and commit to something.
The point being, that despite fantasy seeming otherwordly, it is used as a vehicle for showing truth. The job of fiction in general is to better show us ourselves and reality. Depicting harems as some noble, healthy and realistically workable thing is to be telling a lie. To spend your fiction's capital to float a lie is a betrayal of the medium.
@Kokujinkisama Been avoiding it because it looks a bit low budget and the games for Avatar never seemed that good in the past, but if it really is well made I may have to jump for it. ATLA is the cornerstone of my childhood and I do enjoy fighting games.
@fiilllliif@rizz_with_tism@9mmsmg People who aren't broke are people who think twice before spending 200 dollars. Broke people will think nothing of dropping much more on an impulse buy.
The Magnus Archives is an audio eldritch horror drama where the narrator is a character recording accounts of supernatural events. Quite good, last season they start with including LGBTQ stuff but I enjoyed the series overall. Many hours of content, unlikely you'll finish it over the drive.
@mattcrotts I can confirm the movie depicts the war as a tragedy. It is not as comprehensive a coverage for the whole story as I'd hoped. Achilles is seen in once, and not up close. However, despite a few annoyances, I'd say it's rather poignant with showing Agamemnon's folly.
@TheEbonyMaw It's good. Even better, its a film with black main characters where it doesn't spend a second lecturing white people. Theres one bad white guy and a rich spoiled white girl with a heart of gold whos the female lead's best friend.
Elective surgery means its a surgery that typically isn't being recommended by medical staff. Elective surgeries are typically cosmetic, not to remove pain which would make it necessary. They aren't necessary for general quality of life. Odds are shes insecure about some part of her body and desperately wants to get rid of it and is willing to drown the family in debt to do so.
@scale_e@ItIsHoeMath Serfs had homes, they had gender roles. They didn't have currency and freedom of movement like we do but such things are irrelevant to the society-sustaining process of stable family production.
