The Evacuation Alert for the Saganaga Lake area around active wildland fire Fort Frances 13 (also known as “Little Knife” fire in Minnesota), originally issued by the Thunder Bay – Ignace District on July 24, 2026, has been lifted.

15 fire crews from ON & AB, two 20-person crews from Mexico, an Ontario IMT with a member from QC, pilots, heavy equipment operators, fire management personnel, camp staff, logistics specialists and many others working behind the scenes are assigned to the Rinker Lake Complex.

Rain can help lower fire danger, but it doesn't erase weeks or months of hot, dry weather. One rainstorm may only wet the surface. It can take many days of steady moisture to soak deep into leaves, moss, needles and soil.

Never assume conditions are safe just because it rained.

After several ‘clean’ infrared scans showing no remaining hot spots, Fort Frances 38 – near Crystal Lake and Highway 11 – was called out today. The fire, which originated on July 13, was part of the ongoing response to the Atikokan Cluster of Fires in the Northwest Region.

Ontario FireRangers, Type-2 crews, and firefighting crews from Mexico continue their hard work on the ground on Dryden 36, supported by bucketing helicopters.
Recent favourable weather has helped keep fire behaviour low as suppression efforts continue.
