Gyanesh Kumar & His Family of Civil Servants

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, a 1988-batch Kerala-cadre IAS officer, became the 26th CEC of India on February 19, 2025.

Several members of his family are also serving or have served as senior government officials. His daughter Medha Roopam and her husband Manish Bansal are IAS officers. His younger daughter Abhishri is an IRS officer, while her husband Akshay Labroo is an IAS officer. His brother Manish Kumar is reported to be an IRS officer, and his brother-in-law Upendra Jain is an IPS officer.

The family’s presence in the civil services has drawn public attention. However, holding government positions does not by itself establish any connection with the Election Commission’s decisions or functioning.
