The Cornish scientist, Humphry Davy, was born in Penzance on 17 Dec 1778. He invented the miner’s safety lamp, and was the first to isolate many elements including sodium, potassium, calcium and barium. He was also an accomplished poet who was friends with Wordsworth & Coleridge
Yesterday, I attended the @duolingo event in Parliament. I highlighted the importance of our very own Cornish language, Kernewek, and asked them to include it as an option for learners.
On this day in 2001, 23 years ago, I was part of the delegation that delivered 50,000 declarations calling for a Cornish Assembly to 10 Downing St. Next week, the Government will publish an English Devolution Bill / White Paper. I call for a CORNISH DEVOLUTION BILL.

Cornwall qualified for inclusion in the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities because it's the home of the Cornish people, who still live there.
