Incumbent president Lyndon B Johnson was widely expected to be the Democratic party’s nominee in 1968, but an unpopular war drove him from the race. Vietnam War critic Robert F Kennedy should have been the nominee but his life was tragically cut short. It is altogether fitting that his son and namesake has entered the race in opposition to an incumbent president’s war that is rapidly turning into a fiasco.
