"Woe unto you, ye souls depraved
Hope nevermore to look upon the heavens
I come to lead you to the other shore,
To the eternal shades in heat and frost."
The world feels a whole lot more terrifying this morning - especially for any hope of climate action. Right now I feel sick. But I also know we have choices on how to respond - and will try even harder to light candles rather than curse the darkness 🕯️
Thank you to my MP @deirdrecostigan for taking the time to knock on doors this morning and for listening to my concerns about the climate emergency. Regardless of political affiliation it's reassuring to have an MP keen to engage with constituents about issues that matter to them
Next week Fri, 1 Nov, the Humanities at Wolves hosts an online seminar with @sarawhiters & @TinoOudesluijs (Sheffield) on using computational methods to dig into the style of Kazuo Ishiguro.
Very exciting to explore new ways of understanding the nature of literature. #CLSUK
I’ve just discovered https://t.co/1hJeJwchn1
“The vision… is to provide new words to express what people are feeling and experiencing as our world changes as climate change accelerates.”
My favourite so far: Ennuipocalypse
“literary fiction ghettoised science fiction... literary fiction, for a long time, put its allegiance entirely in this programme of saying ‘we are unique and unparalleled and absolutely outside of everything else’... [it] made other ways of telling stories seem second rate.”

Here's a great practice-led research project investigating how narrative and storytelling can help young people explore the complexities of climate adaption:

Delighted about this new @ace_national fund to aid stroke survivors during their recovery. We'll create an online creative writing programme to help ppl regain functional skills & manage their emotional journey.
The Humanities are absolutely invaluable to society.
Q for Ishiguro fans:— which contemporary writers would you see as being comparable to Ishiguro? (Particularly in terms of style?)
I’m seeking some group think to help with my research project! Thanks in advance for any RTs or suggestions 😊
Frieda Gormley: "if people feel we’re separate from nature, how can we really consider nature in our actions? This definition and worldview is just so much to do with the crisis that we’re in.” https://t.co/41XHjh9U07

After 2 years of work and huge amounts of support from @basgroes@PJRV and @CTTR19 I just submitted my Geopoetic Wayfinders application for the AHRC Curiosity Award.

Looking for participants to take an online questionnaire that will inform research on poetry reading 📖. If you are 18+, can speak English (even as L2) and have 20 minutes, go for it! Link: https://t.co/np2xBW0Pw5
Feel free to share with anyone interested.🙏 @PoeticsLinguist
It's in the geology, at least for Labour. #election2024 results on the left, UK coalfields on the right (from BBC News and Wilson et al. (2015), respectively).
