🚨 BREAKING NEWS
Burkina Faso🇧🇫 moves to reclaim mining wealth with new state-backed sovereign investment fund:
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso — May 22, 2026
In a bold push for greater economic sovereignty, the government of Burkina Faso has officially established a new sovereign mining investment fund aimed at channeling mineral revenues into long-term national development.
The Council of Ministers adopted a decree on Thursday creating the Fonds Souverain Minier d’Investissements du Burkina Faso (FSMIB), named “Siniyan-Sigui.” The fund is designed to capture surplus revenues from the country’s booming mining sector — particularly gold — and redirect them toward strategic infrastructure, industrial projects, and economic transformation.
Key objectives of the Siniyan-Sigui Fund:
• Convert excess mining revenues (above a set reference price) into productive investments
• Finance major infrastructure and industrial projects starting in 2027
• Strengthen state control over the nation’s natural resources
• Support broader goals of economic independence and development under the current transitional government
This move comes as Burkina Faso continues aggressive mining sector reforms, including increased state participation in gold mines, nationalization of certain assets, and record gold production of 94 tonnes in 2025. The country is positioning itself as one of Africa’s rising gold powerhouses.
Analysts see the fund as a significant step in resource nationalism, similar to strategies used by other resource-rich nations to move beyond raw commodity exports toward value creation and long-term wealth building.
More details expected in the coming days as the government outlines the fund’s governance structure, contribution mechanisms, and initial investment priorities.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.

NAF WAR COLLEGE UNDERTAKES FRONTLINE SECURITY ASSESSMENT TO STRENGTHEN COUNTER-INSURGENCY OPERATIONS
Participants of Air War Course 12/2026 from the Air Force War College Nigeria (AFWCN) have concluded a high-level National Study Tour across Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States aimed at strengthening strategic understanding of evolving security threats and enhancing proactive warfighting capacity against terrorism, banditry, and other asymmetric threats in the North-West region. The study tour, themed “State Resources and Air Power: National Development in North-West Nigeria in Perspective,” provided participants with firsthand operational exposure through direct engagements with local communities, traditional institutions, security stakeholders, and state authorities on prevailing security and developmental realities. The exercise further underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to advancing intelligence-driven and people-focused approaches to national security operations.
Speaking during engagements across the region, the Team Leader and Commandant AFWCN, Air Vice Marshal GA Mbaka, stated that the participants were divided into 3 teams deployed to Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States respectively to ensure wider operational coverage and deeper situational assessment. He noted that the exercise was deliberately structured to obtain real-time operational updates from frontline theatres while examining how air power, state resources, and institutional collaboration can be effectively integrated to neutralise emerging threats and support sustainable development. During the tour, participants engaged military formations, sister security agencies, traditional rulers, state governments, and operators of critical mineral infrastructure, gaining valuable insight into ongoing counter-banditry and counter-terrorism operations. The engagements highlighted the decisive role of air power in intelligence gathering, rapid response missions, surveillance operations, and protection of critical national assets across vulnerable areas.
The study tour further reinforced the Nigerian Air Force’s evolving strategy of synchronising kinetic and non-kinetic operations to deny criminal elements freedom of action while strengthening public trust and civil cooperation. Beyond battlefield engagements, participants examined the socio-economic and historical factors fueling insecurity, reaffirming the importance of community partnerships and civil-military collaboration in achieving lasting peace and stability. Host state governments commended the initiative as timely and operationally relevant to prevailing security realities, pledging continued support towards collective efforts aimed at restoring peace and strengthening national security. As a critical component of the Air War Course, the National Study Tour continues to bridge operational doctrine with battlefield realities, equipping future commanders with the strategic foresight, combat readiness, and operational adaptability required to confront emerging threats and safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Continue to waste Nigeria money on over sea trips,
Common electricity, Nigeria do not have, and you are proud to sit with others African leaders 🤣
By the way, i hope that you discuss with them about the coming referendum and BiafraExit ??❤️👍
I arrived in Kigali this afternoon from Nairobi, where we joined other African leaders at the Africa Forward Summit co-hosted by President Ruto and President Macron to advance a new model of partnership built on trade, investment, innovation, infrastructure, and shared prosperity.
I thank my brother, President Paul Kagame @PaulKagame, for the warm reception upon my arrival in Kigali and for our productive bilateral engagement at the Urugwiro presidential village.
Nigeria and Rwanda understand what this moment requires. Africa must trade more with itself, move goods faster, connect its markets better, and give its entrepreneurs the continental scale they need to compete.
Our discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade between our two countries. We are also in the early stages of discussions with RwandAir on a practical flat rate arrangement that can help Nigerian businesses ship their goods more predictably across the continent.
As champions of the AfCFTA, Nigeria and Rwanda will continue to work together to deepen digital trade, strengthen market access, and remove the barriers that limit African enterprise.
Furthermore, Nigeria is proud to host the AfCFTA Council of Ministers and Digital Trade Forum in June. We also look forward to welcoming the continent and the world for IATF and CANEX from November 5 to 11, 2026, and again in November 2027.
From the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi to the Africa CEO Forum @africaceoforum in Kigali, my message remains the same. Africa’s future will not be built by speeches alone. It will be built by trade, investment, innovation, and the courage to trust one another’s markets.
This is the path to shared and sustainable prosperity for our people and the continent.

Dear Tope,
Thank you for your feedback. People were hungrier than they are today when Christ praised Jewish culture in John 4:22.
My culture is not the reason people are poor. However, it can be the reason people become rich.
For example, Afrobeats originated in the Lukumi Yoruba culture, and globally, it earns billions of dollars for Nigerians and non-Nigerians.
So, please allow me to celebrate my culture and country. Such celebration is why 1.2 million visited Lagos for 'Detty December' and why others are trying to buy into aspects of the culture, like ó wà n'bẹ (Owanbe) and Aso ebi.
I come from a high culture and therefore will celebrate it!
Thanks again, and may God bless you.
