🎊That’s a wrap on the party worth staying up for! The 2025 #POGOPJParty was filled with countless memorable (and cozy) moments. Oh, what a night!
Guests slipped into comfort with the slipper valet, indulged at the s'mores station, bid on exclusive items, danced the night away, snapped pics with a grizzly bear, and soaked in the cozy cabin decor—making it the ultimate Cabin Fever experience!
And with the support of so many, we raised over $350,000 to date to support #ChildhoodCancerCare across Ontario:
👉Financial assistance for families’ out-of-pockets expenses
👉Customized school and work counselling for survivors
👉Vital research to examine the long-term effects of childhood cancer and its treatment
Thank you to 17-year-old Tim and his family who shared their story of Tim’s ongoing cancer treatment; #AndrewHaley, a Paralympic swimmer, who brought his charm as host and shared his cancer journey; and our incredible guests, sponsors, auction and promo draw purchasers, donors and planning committee!
The newest #POGOGuideline recommends joyful eating during cancer treatment. Yes, food needs to be safe, but there's limited value in the neutropenic diet, an eating plan meant to prevent infection. Read the guideline here https://t.co/Vy0wVEpnli
POGO guidelines help young people in Ontario and around the world get the best #ChildhoodCancer care.

Welcome Dr. Donna Johnston as the incoming POGO Medical Director, starting Monday, March 3rd.
Reporting to the POGO Board of Directors, the Medical Director helms the overall strategic clinical leadership across POGO’s programs and portfolios, and in partnership with POGO’s CEO, @LaurenEttin, is responsible for the achievement of POGO’s vision and mission, identifying strategic and transformational opportunities to advance childhood cancer care in Ontario.
Donna is a pediatric oncologist at #CHEOHospital and will continue her clinical role at the hospital where she has worked since 2001. She has served as the hospital’s Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Vice-Chair, Clinical Operations, Department of Pediatrics. She says that “Since joining the POGO Board in 2012, it’s been my dream to be the Medical Director – a role that is pivotal in ensuring the best care for our childhood cancer patients, survivors, and their families. I look forward to joining the exceptional POGO team, to work in partnership with Lauren, and to be part of the work as leaders in childhood cancer care, provincially, nationally and internationally.”
Please give Donna a warm welcome!
Today is #WorldCancerDay. This year’s theme focuses on the stories and unique perspectives of those affected by cancer.
Kayla was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumour at age 11. A passionate reader and writer, she used storytelling to cope with her diagnosis. In 2024, she presented on creative writing as part of POGO’s Survivor-to-Survivor (S2S) Network Team—marking ten years of being cancer-free.
When asked to share insights about her cancer experience, she shared, “It’s okay to be ‘weak’ sometimes; a truly strong person knows when they have done all they can. You are the director of your cancer journey—if you need to say ‘cut’ or ‘pause,’ do so. For coping, I have found turning guilt, fear, and sadness into art helpful. It’s not about being an artist, but about finding safety during one of the toughest times of your life.”
