Today, I ended up in hospital after experiencing significant chest pain.
I’m now being referred to the Rapid Chest Pain Clinic because the doctors believe there could be an underlying issue that needs investigating. I’ve been put on daily aspirin and nitrolingual spray to use when the pain comes on, with clear instructions that if it doesn’t settle within five minutes, I must return immediately to hospital.
But while I should be concentrating on my health, my mind keeps going back to one thing:
What happens to the charity if we cannot secure the financial support we desperately need?
I have given 10 years of my life volunteering to this charity, following six years previously volunteering to help London’s homeless people and their dogs.
For 10 years, I have kept going because I believe in what we do. I believe in the people we help. I believe in the dogs we support. And I believe that the work we do matters.
But I have to be completely honest now.
We are struggling financially.
Fundraising is becoming harder.
Grants are becoming harder to secure.
Donations are becoming harder to find.
Yet the bills, and other essential costs do not stop.
The charity’s overheads continue every single day, whether we have the money coming in or not.
And I am reaching a point where I cannot continue carrying the financial worry, the pressure and the uncertainty on top of everything else.
I am worried about my health. I am worried about the charity. And I am worried about what happens next.
This isn't a post I ever wanted to write.
I don't want sympathy.
I need support.
If you have ever believed in what we do, if our work has ever meant something to you, or if you simply want to help us keep going, now is the time to stand with us.
🙏 Please donate if you can.
🙏 Please consider fundraising for us.
🙏 Please share this post.
🙏 Please talk about our charity and help us reach people who may be able to support us.
Even a small donation can help.
A share could reach someone who can make a much bigger difference.
A fundraiser could help pay an essential bill.
A regular donation could give us the stability we desperately need.
Please don't wait until we're forced to say that we can no longer continue.
We have spent years helping others through some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable.
Right now, we need people to help us.
I have given everything I can for the last 10 years.
But I cannot do this alone anymore.
Please help us keep the charity alive.🧡

🚨 PLEASE HELP US KEEP GOING 🚨
I need to be completely honest with you.
Dogs on the Streets is struggling financially.
The number of people and dogs needing our help has become overwhelming.
Every day, another desperate call comes in. Veterinary care. Foster care. Food. Emergency support. And sometimes, simply being there for someone who has nobody else.
I just cannot turn them away.
But the reality is that we cannot continue without financial support.
I am a director of this charity and take zero pay. I am a volunteer, just like so many others who give their time because they care.
We don't have a fancy PR team. We don't have paid promoters. We don't have big corporate backing.
We are simply people trying to help people and their dogs through some incredibly difficult circumstances.
And I am exhausted — mentally and physically.
Tomorrow I am having scans and tests because of health issues that have started to arise. I know I need to look after myself, but when that phone rings and someone desperately needs help, I struggle to walk away.
How do you tell someone who has lost everything that we can't help because the money has run out?
I don't want that to happen.
We currently believe we have around TWO MONTHS financially to continue providing the level of support that is desperately needed.
So today, I am asking you — please help us.
🙏 If you can donate, no matter how small, please do.
🐾 If you can't donate, please share this post.
❤️ If you've ever believed in what Dogs on the Streets stands for, please stand with us now.
Your donation could help provide veterinary treatment.
It could help keep a dog safely with the person they love.
It could help feed someone who is struggling.
Or it could simply mean that when someone reaches the end of their tether and picks up the phone, there is still someone there to answer.
We need you.
Please don't let us have to say, "I'm sorry, we can't help."

Every pound. Every share. Every act of kindness makes a difference.
Thank you for standing beside us. 🧡

Book lovers, keep an eye out from this gem, out on 6th September from the inimitable @LauraPAuthor, author and book champion who has just been diagnosed with leukaemia so may not have time to shout about it herself. Buy it. It's fab. https://t.co/5dYj6Luwrh
Did you know that until April 1975 women in the UK were banned from all races longer than four miles?
In the 1960s, women started to break the rules and 'crash' men's races.
Rulebreakers and Ghost Runners by @RunYoung50 tells their incredible stories.
Out now.
Looking to speak to women about feeling safe on public transport, particularly after dark. Have concerns about buses, trains, stops, stations or the walk home changed how, when or whether you travel? Email [email protected]. RTs appreciated. #journorequest#PublicTransport
Looking for a sport endurance coach or race / challenge expert who can share commentary on why more amateur athletes are travelling abroad to compete in races (e.g. ultras, marathons etc)
Email on [email protected] if you might be able to help! #journorequest#prrequest
A fascinating, inspiring account of how British women asserted their right to run long distance and changed the landscape of running for good.
Rulebreakers and Ghost Runners publishes 13th August.
