Russian imperial influence has suffered a major setback in Armenia. Now it is up to Yerevan to take further steps to break free from dependence on Russia.
Yes, definitely, and without any beating around the bush: Putin has deteriorated significantly, and he continues to weaken in plain sight.
He used to appear in public as a cold, psychopathic, cynical, cruel, treacherous, and calculating predator, always wearing that smug little sadistic grin. Now, month after month, he is increasingly descending into outright buffoonery and farce.
He is drowning in his own childish giggling, awkward antics, and crude off-color jokes. He now routinely blurts out poorly thought-out nonsense straight from the top of his head, which contradicts itself and even the mainstream narrative of his own propaganda machine. It's almost as if Donald Trump bit him. As a result, he now constantly shocks his own officials and Russia's Z-fascists on Telegram.
He keeps making mistakes. He keeps absorbing painful public blows from Zelensky. He keeps allowing himself to be backed into corners.
I don't know exactly what it is. Maybe age is finally taking its toll. Maybe accumulated exhaustion. Maybe a growing, reluctant realization that things are not going well in the war against Ukraine, that the prospects ahead promise nothing good, that a certain threshold has been crossed beyond which Russia will no longer be able to break Ukraine, and that only the countdown remains to the most terrifying thing of all: the eventual acknowledgment of failure.
And so the Kremlin war machine (and the dictator's own veins) are filling with nervousness, frantic activity, denial of reality, impulsive decisions, palace intrigues, and a growing loss of control. Add to that the recent setbacks in Syria, Hungary, Moldova, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
Most likely, it's all of the above.
Because you can puff out your chest, pound your fist, issue threats, and project as much small-dick-energy bravado as you want, but against the backdrop of devastating Ukrainian strikes on Russia's oil industry -- and now on its military and fuel logistics -- Putin nevertheless authorized Roman Abramovich's trip to Kyiv.
The thing is, the old Putin probably would never have bragged about something like that in public or signaled to everyone that beneath all the swagger, laughter, and bravado, he had blinked first.
The escalation in the Middle East comes as no surprise. The broader dynamics of the conflict, the Iranian regime’s confidence, its links to Russia’s ongoing war of aggression in Europe, and the United States’ relative departure from its initial objectives have created conditions in which a ceasefire alone cannot deliver sustainable peace.
This holds true for both Europe and the Middle East. We remain on the threshold of a major global conflict, as the leading Western powers have been unable to meaningfully coordinate their efforts in pursuit of peace.
“Putin understands that he is becoming an unstable ruler in the eyes of world leaders, his elites, and his own people. Weakness is what he fears most. What is happening in Russia now is weakening the regime, and we must use that weakness as a weapon.”

ZELENSKYY: Even on frontline, we have internet. They restrict internet in Moscow, they can’t use social media in their capital. We can use it on battlefield. Nobody stopped our soldiers. They can go online during pauses or whenever they want to speak with their children and etc.
My sincere congratulations to @NikolPashinyan on his success in Armenia's parliamentary elections.
I look forward to deepening Sweden's and the EU's cooperation with Armenia, as well as continuing our support for the regional peace process.

⚡️ Lavrov complained to Bangladesh’s foreign minister about Zelensky’s letter to Putin
You see, it was made public and seen around the world.
💬 “Polite people don’t do that.”
Someone should probably remind Russia’s foreign minister that polite people don’t usually cross their neighbors’ borders with tanks.
Nikol Pashinyan wins. Armenia has chosen continuity and confirmed its pro-European direction. An important signal that the future of the region is still being written.
I’m loving this sort of thing.
For years, Russia has been yelling about “Ukrainian Nazis,” the “Kyiv junta,” the “protection of the people of Donbas,” the “NATO threat,” and “we didn’t start this war, Ukraine attacked us.”
And then, as if nothing happened, Russian officials openly and publicly threaten Armenia with a “Ukrainian scenario” if its pro-Western government, which has been confidently re-elected, continues moving closer to the European Union and European countries.
KALLAS: I want to say few words about Armenia. I think turnout was really good. People of Armenia, despite heavy Russian pressure, have chosen European future, which is very positive development. And we are trying to help them as much as possible, including with future reforms.
I congratulate Armenia on holding democratic and free elections, and @NikolPashinyan on his victory. This is also a victory for Armenia’s sovereignty, your independence, and your right to live the way you choose. We wish you success.
Ukraine is ready to expand our cooperation, and now is precisely the time for the European Union to provide real support to Armenia and do everything necessary to ensure that people feel their lives are better thanks to their relationship with Europe. This is a test for the European Union. It is important not to lose time or miss opportunities.
Nearly 500,000 Russian citizens enjoyed European holidays last year.
Meanwhile, Ukrainians were dying on the battlefield.
It's time to end Schengen tourist visas for Russian tourists.
Holidays in the EU are a privilege, not a right for citizens of a country waging war on our continent.
Welker: Do you think anyone who attacks police officers on January 6th should get taxpayer money?
Trump: I can tell you this, 97% of those people, you look at them, the FBI or whoever it was, you had a lot of crooked cops. They had FBI agents ushering them in. You had a bunch of dirty cops.
Welker: There’s no evidence of that.
Trump: Try looking at the tapes.
Welker: 172 people did plead guilty to assaulting police officers.
Trump: You know why they pled guilty? They were told they were going to jail for 15 years. They pled guilty because they were frightened. They went down and ushered into a building.
If you didn’t notice, Russia presented in St Petersburg a “positive scenario” for Europe’s future:
- nuclear strike on Ukraine,
- war till 2036;
- occupation of Kyiv;
- disintegration of EU;
- Russia’s domination in Europe.
Think about it next time when saying 🇷🇺 means well.
