I dislike the phrase “behavior problem” when referring to challenging kids. Behaviors aren’t usually the problem. They are solutions they pick to problems. IE... kid calls out inappropriately = needy for attention / connection. Focus on what’s driving the behavior. #thatonekid
Facilitated a workshop on trauma & the brain. This is important work. Learning can’t happen until we take care of this work. To know my colleagues know this was simply inspiring. On top of all their “other” stuff they made room for more. I work with the best. #itsgoodtobeamustang
First session of Trauma and the Brain is in the books. So much fun to facilitate this work alongside our school counselor! Always learning. Always growing. #pyproud#itsgoodtobeamustang
Session 2 of the Fostering Resilient Learners book club I’m facilitating. We have representation from 2 out of our 3 buildings. We have TAs, teachers, administrators, and a staff developer. We are learning, growing, and always getting better. #itsgoodtobeamustang#traumasensitive
When you’re in a workshop and get a new “teacher toy”. I swear this is better than Christmas morning! Thankful for opportunities to continue learning. #proudtobeamustang
Yes! Your perception of “big deal” and “little deal” could be totally different then the children in your care. They have a right to perceive those “things” however they need to. It’s our job to support and teach them skills to successfully function with the “baggage” they bring.
1 day @ school this week & 4 days of training in Rochester. Next week leading my first PD workshop. Not allowing my stuttering to set limits. It’s part of who I am. It isn’t indicative of my intelligence or skill. Here goes nothing!
Mrs. Steven’s friends warmed the bellies and hearts of PYE staff today. Such a practical way to spread kindness, teach social skills, and so much more. #pyproud#proudtobeamustang
Pushing myself out of my comfort zone, planning an awesome PD opportunity with our school counselor. Exciting things happening! #itsgoodtobeamustang#pyproud
