1/ You may have seen headlines like “Supreme Court allows passive euthanasia for Harish Rana” or “First-ever case for passive euthanasia.” 🚨 These are incorrect.
“Decisions to withhold or withdraw life-sustaining treatment are complex and emotionally difficult both for doctors and for the patient’s caregivers. If these are equated with ‘euthanasia’, which is currently illegal in India, it can have very negative connotations and add to the emotional burden of doctors and caregivers,” says Dr Dhvani Mehta in an interview with (@moneycontrolcom) MoneyControl.

The term “passive euthanasia” is outdated and obscures the legal position. Using accurate language is essential to uphold dignity, something the Supreme Court also affirmed in Harish Rana v. Union of India.
We urge responsible reporting for Harish Rana and end-of-life matters.
So what is the correct terminology?
