We've been working on something we're really excited about: a direct connection between your Paperpile library and the AI assistants you already use. ✨️
You can now send PDFs to ChatGPT, NotebookLM, or Claude.
There are good MCP servers and skills for literature search -- see GXL's Paperclip, Scite MCP, Elicit MCP.
Paperpile will release plugins for Claude Code & Codex soon.
For literature search in mainstream agents to be really effective, you need (1) a good MCP server, (2) thoughtful skills describing best practices & gotchas to avoid, and (3) an easy way to install that doesn't require forking a repo. For icing on the cake, add (4) a way to get full-text content to your machine so an agent can read it like code.
Plugins finally make all this possible, but they're still a bit under-developed.
Hallucinated citations are showing up in preprints.
We built Paperpile Citation Checker to check your bibliography before you submit.
Here's what we learned along the way 1/3

🧠 The “thinking” or “pro” model in an AI assistant outperforms the “instant” or “lite” model.
🔍️ Incorporating web search results can reduce hallucinations.
📄 The riskiest references to ask AI for are newer, less-cited papers. Highly-cited papers show up often in training data, so models tend to get them right. 2/3
At Paperpile, it's our job to be obsessed about citation accuracy.
So we built a free tool to flag incorrect references before you submit a preprint.
Upload a BibTeX file and the Citation Checker verifies every reference in real time. Download the updated file or share the URL with your coauthors.

Quickly verify citations in your BibTeX file. Share a URL to give your coauthors peace of mind before you submit.
We've also been learning a ton about how hallucinated citations happen. Blog post coming soon.
@paperpile can now be integrated into @claudeai, and from #Claude I can access the files in my #paperpile library ( for analysis (summarizing, comparing, etc.).
Paperpile now saves references directly from Google Scholar Labs, the new AI-powered search tool that lets you find papers using natural language questions instead of keywords.
The summary is automatically added as a note, so you keep the context of why a paper matched your question, not just the citation.

We put a lot of thought into making it convenient to jump from the AI-generated output into reading the source PDF.
It wasn't easy to do this, but we found it's an important part of real-world use.
I'm glad to hear it's appreciated!

We've been testing this for a month or two, with really strong engagement from our beta testers.
I'm excited to finally make it available to every Paperpile user!
Building this feature has been an interesting journey – we'll share some stories over the coming days.
Surface the findings that matter, without breaking your flow.
