Deeply concerned by the unfortunate incident involving MV OCEAN WINNER off the coast of Odisha. The Panama-flagged vessel was carrying iron ore from Paradip Port to China.
All agencies are coordinating closely and actively doing search and rescue efforts. 2 survivors have been successfully rescued and are being given medical care; their rank and identity are currently being verified.
My prayers for the safety of the remaining crew.

#WATCH | Paradip, Odisha: On inaugurating 7 major infrastructure projects worth ₹427.80 crore in Paradip, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal says, "With the support of the Odisha government and the local community, the Paradip Port Authority has achieved a significant milestone; by handling over 150 million metric tonnes of cargo, it has proven itself to be the country's most powerful port, a true 'megaport.' The goal for the future is to surpass 500 million metric tonnes. To achieve this, initiatives such as developing an 18.5-meter deep draft have been implemented; this will undoubtedly double the port's capacity, create more employment opportunities for the youth, and enable better service to the local population..."

#WATCH | Paradip, Odisha: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal, says, "Today, the Paradip Port Authority has organised a skill development program for the youth of Odisha, in collaboration with the Visakhapatnam-based institute—which is part of the Indian Maritime University—to take this initiative forward. We have taken these steps to advance the 'Skill India' program envisioned by our highly respected Prime Minister. Thanks to the cooperation of local ministers, Members of Parliament, and the general public, we have successfully completed a two-month training course and handed over appointment letters to the participants. This program has been a great success, and we have decided to scale it up in the near future. It is the public's wish, our own objective, and the Prime Minister's directive that we should—as much as possible—promote skill development programs for the youth in our coastal regions, specifically within the maritime sector. Accordingly, we have decided to increase the intake capacity at Paradip from 168 to 500, and a permanent institute will be established there for this purpose. I believe that such programs, successfully implemented at every port, are crucial for creating the quality workforce needed to achieve the Prime Minister's goal of transforming India into a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047."
