in honor of League Classic, a story of how i got here

in 2017 I cold DMed on LinkedIn:
- 5 riot recruiters + 3 other rioters
- 2 at twitch
- TL CEO
- CLG and Optic COOs
- 7 esports companies

and I cold emailed:
- CLG
- FLY
- FOX
- TL + TSM a bunch of times

i got zero responses

in honor of League Classic:

here’s a pic of me at the OLD riot studio 12 years ago and my first league cosplay over 7 years ago 👵🏻

[parkes @parquesomedia]

[parkes @parquesomedia]

and now..... On Monday, i hit 4 years at Riot!

I'm working on a game i love with awesome people. I still travel to events, I watch all the games, I keep up with old friends, and I am so so so so lucky to be here

Thanks everyone! (bonus Lyon 3-0 G2, that was sick)

[parkes @parquesomedia]

so then I sent 100+ cold DMs on twitter for work/collabs and I cold messaged 10+ esports companies and media sites, earning myself roles at PAX, E3, an esports tech company, and a bunch of publications

I freelanced for years, moved to china, got laid off twice... but I pushed on

[parkes @parquesomedia]

@dunctcg we are almost exactly the same except i really like the new order rune. but everything else is either spot on or really close

[parkes @parquesomedia]

@caro_irl @TransLifeline happy birthday! it’s been fun knowing you from afar all these years and especially fun watching you pop off

tbh no real advice cus you’re doing great, only thing is don’t worry at all about approaching 30, life gets better every year. 30 is incredible. keep being you ❤️
