With every book another journey of discovery... delighted to announce I've signed with the fantastic people @QuercusBooks to write a book about Charly Gaul, one of the most enigmatic & talented riders ever to grace cycling.
Hardback out May 24

@iancleverly @nedboulting oh that ending... I read that the writers originally wrote another version - the gang make it to a swiss bank, stash the gold in a safe with a combination, of which they each learn only 2 digits. then 2 get killed in a shoot-out with police...
@CaleyFretz Great tip, thx. The dubbing particularly ruins all the background incidental conversations, and the French language is one of the most joyful, nostalgic parts of the Tour
Today the Giro heads for Monte Bondone, scene of one of the most epic days in Giro history. In 1956 Charly Gaul won on the mountain and took the maglia rosa. Snow and freezing rain meant that only 43 riders finished the stage, and most of them got lifts in supporting vehicles.
@herbiesykes Anquetil was booed and whistled at for making the race boring (and for perceived arrogance) - and the French fans saved their cheers for Charly.
๐ฌ๐ง Cat Ferguson won the ๐ง๐ช Ronde van Vlaanderen for Junior Women on Sunday. ๐ฎ๐น Federica Venturelli 2nd, ๐ซ๐ท Cรฉlia Gery 3rd, ๐ง๐ช Fleur Moors 4th, ๐ง๐ช Xaydee Van Sinaey 5th, ๐ฌ๐ง Imogen Wolff 7th, ๐ง๐ช Lore De Schepper 8th. A lot of familiar names in the top 10. ๐
Bought myself some new kit to celebrate finishing my book on Charly Gaul. Love this colour way, and the redemption story of @CordonRagot sealed the deal. Looking forward to riding around London in it.
@franquinn@LauraPAuthor very similar, plus I might write any other bits and bobs - author's note, blurb, author profile - which make it feel more like a real book that will appear in the shops
