Today we met with Peter Kavanagh, CEO of UK firm Harmony Energy, which is building NZ’s largest solar panel farm capable of supplying 35,000 homes with electricity. Clean, sustainable energy and exactly the sort of investment NZ wants.

Moving to hear the testimony yesterday of holocaust survivors on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Janine Webber described the ordeal she lived through as a young girl whose family was devastated by Nazi persecution.

A really good meeting with Chair of the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs Select Committee, Alastair Carmichael. We talked about a longstanding and mutually beneficial trading relationship and opportunities for cooperation in agritech and reducing livestock methane emissions

Good to meet Sir Nick Hine, formerly Second Sea Lord who served over three decades in the Royal Navy. Nick is now CEO Marine with Babcock who provide engineering services for the Royal NZ Navy at Devonport in Auckland.

Really good to meet in London this morning with 24 young Kiwi students on a UN Youth NZ Global Development Tour who are committed and energetic about creating a better and more sustainable world.

Good meeting today with UK Minister of Defence Lord Vernon Coaker on enhancing our defence cooperation in a threatening global environment, including working together to support Ukraine and ensuring Antarctica is preserved as an area of peace and science.

A privilege today to conduct an investiture on behalf of the Governor General awarding the New Zealand Order of Merit to Ereti Mitchell. An absolutely delightful lady who has promoted NZ Scottish relations and Māori culture in the UK for nearly 50 years.

The annual reception at Buckingham Palace is a great event and Heads of Mission are invited to wear national dress rather than the standard white tie. I’m wearing a traditional Māori kakahu or cloak which highlights the richness of our culture.

A privilege to attend this morning’s Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph in Whitehall along with the King, Prime Minister, diplomatic representatives, other leaders and most importantly over 10,000 veterans. Lest we forget.
