Nancy Wells, Kathy Leach and Joyce Schroeder paved the way for female rangers. To celebrate 50 years of Women Rangers, Wells, and Leach, the first female rangers, and Shroeder, the first female chief ranger, returned to the ranch to share their stories and celebrate progress.

When Waite Phillips donated Philmont to the Boy Scouts of America in 1938 one of the conditions was to maintain the land as a working cattle ranch. The Farm and Roads department isn't often seen by participants, but works hard harvesting hay for the cattle herds across the ranch.
