It's great to see @Ben_Wray1989 back with @project_gig!
These reports will be essential for unions and workers to build capacity on key issues such as the algorithmic management, on which knowledge gaps need to be filled if we want to rebalance the power of digital platforms.
My report for the European Trade Union Confederation @etuc_ces on how workers can ‘negotiate the algorithm’ has been published.
I'm convinced that becoming much more data-savvy will be increasingly critical for unions to re-build workers’ power in the digital age. 🧵
Wherever I've been in the Basque Country this summer, the Palestine flag has been there. Villages, Cities, festivals, beaches, mountains...it's almost as ubiquitous as the Basque flag.
A nation that knows what it means to be carpet bombed by fascists.

Von Der Leyen did deals to buy Pfizer vaccines worth billions by text. She deleted the texts to avoid public scrutiny. The European court of justice has now ruled that she broke the law.
A victory against corruption, but we'll still never know what was in the texts. #Pfizergate
Il capitalismo nell'Antropocene: i rider a Bologna che lavorano durante la quarta alluvione che colpisce la regione Emilia-Romagna in un anno - alluvioni rese più frequenti e più gravi del cambiamento climatico causato dall'attività umana.
Thanks to @Ben_Wray1989 for the opportunity to report about the struggles of platform workers for fair working conditions.
I hope @project_gig will find soon another funding source that will allow to keep giving voice to gig workers against the power of exploitative platforms.
My cooperation with Ben and @lracrr also resulted in a series of investigative pieces funded by @journalismfund on gig workers' road accidents and platforms' insurances, another enriching experience that shed light on the problems of food delivery sector safety issues.
Two years ago, I turned from being a keen reader to a contributor of the newsletter, supporting @Ben_Wray1989 in reporting about gig workers' struggles in Brussels (@co_coursiersBXL), Italy, and France, and in following the intricated path of the #platformworkdirective.
The Gig Economy Project comes to an end, at least for now. And this is really sad news.
Thanks to the incredible work of @Ben_Wray1989, this project grew and gained widespread recognition that made it the go-to source about #platformeconomy and #gigwork in Europe.
The Gig Economy Project weekly newsletter is out!
This is our last newsletter, at least for the time being, as we've ran out of funds. Thanks to everyone that's helped with the project over the past 4 years and keep fighting for decent, secure & dignified platform work!
They also demand that public authorities make platforms respect the laws and the court decisions that should provide riders woth the same rights as the other workers.
Today and tomorrow delivery riders in Brussels go on #strike against exploitation by platforms like #UberEats and #Deliveroo.
They fight for decent working conditions, for a higher pay, for the respect of migrant workers, and for the end of robo-firings.

What is clear is that the approved text is a compromise "ad minima", a strong EU-wide approach on employment presumption did not pass, and national implementations of employment presumption will be key
After 800+ days of negotiations, habemus EU Platform Work Directive!
It didn't seem possible some weeks ago, when the watered-down compromise by the 🇧🇪 presidency was rejected by 🇫🇷🇩🇪🇬🇷🇪🇪, or after the 🇪🇸 text was not even put to a vote at the Council last December.
Interesting 🧵by @pieter_haeck on the political context and the balance of power in and around 🇪🇺 institutions, which led to this compromise ⬇️
