💡Did you know that every plastic item you’ve ever used in your lifetime is still in existence in some form on the planet? And it will still be here long after you’re gone—including your childhood toothbrush.
🔥 Even when incinerated, plastic doesn't completely go away, releasing microplastics and nanoplastics into the air. Read more about the problem of plastic here: https://t.co/RXcsfLIdEG

🐳 Every second breath we take comes from the ocean. But, microplastics put the health of the ocean, and all of us in jeopardy.
🌊 An estimated 170 trillion plastic particles now pollute the world’s seas. That’s more than the stars in our galaxy.
🪼 They’re harming wildlife, and disrupting climate regulation and the ocean’s dynamic balance that has developed over millennia.

👉 As you may have learned this month during Plastic Free July, the plastics crisis isn’t just a problem that lives in the oceans. It expands across every industry, every ecosystem, our food systems, the clothing we wear, the products we put on our skin—and the air we breathe. It’s especially harmful to those living on the front lines of the petrochemical and plastics industries.
Here’s a bombshell: plastic recycling won’t solve it either. It requires true systemic change.
These films attempt to cover just how pervasive plastics and chemical pollution are—and show the solutions, too. 🎥 Here are some of our top plastic-related film picks. Let us know yours in the comments!

🍬🛒 Plastic is wrapped around nearly every aisle of our grocery stores. While we can all make small changes, keeping our food safe shouldn't be the public's responsibility.
📣Tell federal and state lawmakers to get toxic plastic off our food.

Major milestone alert: the Beyond Plastics Network now has 200 Local Groups and Affiliates nationwide! 🎉
Launched in 2022, the Beyond Plastics Network provides local groups with training, tools, and a national platform to organize around shared goals: reducing single-use plastic, holding corporations accountable for their pollution and false recycling claims, and advancing local and state legislation like the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act in New York State.
Thank you to every one of our Local Groups and Affiliates who made this milestone possible. We're grateful to be in community with you as we work together to end plastic pollution.
🐬 We are all connected. Even Earth’s largest and least understood habitat, the deep sea, has been infiltrated by tiny pieces of plastic. Microplastics carry toxic chemicals like PCBs and PFAS throughout the ocean, threatening life from surface to seafloor and undermining the ocean’s ability to regulate our planet.
😔 They can also exacerbate harmful algal blooms, alter water currents, and raise local water temperatures. The harms of microplastics on the world’s oceans, wildlife, and humans continue to be revealed through a growing body of research.
🪸 Let’s work to end plastic pollution, embrace reusable and regenerative materials, and push for systemic change—so that we can have a healthy planet for all.

Fires + plastic = a toxic combination. 😷 🔥
Plastic-heavy buildings and furnishings burn faster and more dangerously than wood, stone, or metal, putting firefighters at greater risk and releasing toxic chemicals like dioxins and phthalates into smoke.
👉️ Even after the flames are out, ash and chemicals can persist for years. Wildfire runoff can release toxic chemicals into the environment and even contaminate our water supply.
