🚴‍♀️ 🇵🇱 Nearly 60 Polish cyclists are competing in the ongoing @Montreal_2026 @UCI_cycling Road World Championships, bringing a strong Polish presence to one of the biggest cycling events in @MTL_Ville in decades.

🎉 The final races are taking place this weekend, so we hope to see plenty of white and red 🇵🇱 in the crowds cheering on our athletes!

👏 Keep an eye out for Maria Okrucińska, who has already made history here in Montréal by winning Poland’s first-ever Junior Women’s Individual Time Trial World Championship title. She will race again on Friday.

🎖️ The Women Elite Road Race will feature Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney, who recently finished second in the Tour de France Femmes.

🇵🇱 On 17 September, we marked Polish Armed Forces Day at the Embassy of Poland in Ottawa. Chargée d’Affaires a.i. Arletta Brzozowska and Defence Attaché, Captain (Navy) Paweł Podgórny, welcomed friends and Allies to the official reception.

Observed in Poland on 15 August, Polish Armed Forces Day recalls the Polish victory in 1920 that halted the Soviet advance into Europe. 17 September marks the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939. The symbolism of these dates reminds us of the lessons of the past as we look firmly to the future.

💬 In their remarks, Chargée d’Affaires a.i. and Captain (Navy) conveyed a clear message: Poland is strengthening its Armed Forces through modernisation, increased defence spending, training and growing military capabilities for defence purposes. But Poland is not only equipped with the gear. Poland has Allies, and our Allies have Poland.

🇨🇦 Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee, Vice Chief of the Defense Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces, highlighted historical bonds between our countries, as well as shared commitment to NATO today. As an example recalled the Battle of the Atlantic and longstanding cooperation of the Polish and Canadian Navies. Admiral also noted with a smile that pronouncing names such as ORP Błyskawica can occasionally be a challenge, giving rise to its wartime nickname, “bottle of whiskey.”

🏅 Sharing the history of the Polish Armed Forces with audiences internationally is an important part of showcasing their traditions and peaceful activities. Mr Edward Poznański has devoted many years to this work in Canada. In recognition of his role as a custodian and promoter of the history of the Polish Armed Forces, he was awarded the Silver Medal of the Polish Armed Forces by the Minister of National Defence of Poland.

🚲 When Polish teacher Edyta visited an orphanage in Mariupol, Ukraine, she saw children who, despite the harsh conditions, had not lost their joy. They dreamed of having bicycles, because the orphanage had only one. That trip changed her life.

Back in her classroom in Poznań, she told her students what she had witnessed. Their response was immediate: they collected bicycles, skateboards, and scooters to send to Ukraine. What began as one class's act of kindness grew into years of school fundraisers, charity fairs, and holiday stays in Poland for Ukrainian children.

📦 Then came the 24th of February 2022. While many were still trying to process the news, Edyta was already taking action. Together with friends, parents, and local schools, she organised shipments of humanitarian aid. More trips to Ukraine followed, bringing aid to medics, soldiers, and children from an evacuated orphanage.

Today, through her Czerwony Mak Foundation, Edyta continues her mission alongside Łukasz, who coordinates humanitarian assistance for people affected by the war. Together, they have built a trusted network of volunteers and partners that helps deliver aid where it is needed most. As Łukasz puts it, some of the greatest heroes of this war are those who never appear in the media – volunteers who devote their time and energy to helping others.

🎨 Whether it's delivering Christmas gifts or leading art workshops, the Czerwony Mak Foundation creates moments when children can simply be children again, even as Russian drones fly overhead.

💬 As Edyta says, "You cannot send conversations or jokes in a parcel." Sometimes, the most valuable aid is simply being there.

🇵🇱 Poland gains further recognition as a developed market.

📈 S&P Dow Jones Indices has upgraded Poland from emerging to developed-market status. S&P Dow Jones Indices tracks the world’s leading equity markets. The change takes effect in September 2027.

S&P DJI is not the first. In 2018, FTSE Russell classified Poland as a developed market, making it the first Central and Eastern European country to receive this classification from the index provider.

🪙 Poland recently surpassed US$1 trillion in nominal GDP. An invitation to participate in the 2026 G20 Summit as a guest followed. A reflection of Poland’s growing economic weight.

On Sunday, 13 September, Poland’s Chargée d’affaires a.i. in Canada, Arletta Brzozowska, attended a ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, organised by the Merchant Navy Commemorative Theme Project and @VeteransENG_CA.

Veterans, representatives of different levels of government, including Ottawa–Vanier MP @MonaFortier, gathered to honour the service and sacrifice of merchant mariners of the past, while highlighting the indispensable role of today’s global maritime community in our everyday lives.

Often out of sight, maritime transport remains an essential lifeline for our daily lives and a vital part of global security and prosperity.

⚓ Merchant Navy Veterans’ Day, commemorated in Canada on 3 September, is also an opportunity to reflect on our shared history as allies and friends. During the Battle of the Atlantic, the longest campaign of the Second World War, the Polish Navy and Merchant Marine worked closely with their Canadian counterparts. Polish sailors took part from the very first to the very last day of the campaign. In Halifax, a monument commemorating the Polish Navy and Merchant Marine stands as a reminder of this shared history.

🇨🇦🤝🇵🇱 The close cooperation between the Polish destroyers ORP Piorun and ORP Błyskawica and Canadian destroyers HMCS Haida and HMCS Huron, supported Allied operations, including the Normandy landings.

Today, ORP Błyskawica is preserved in Muzeum Marynarki Wojennej in @MiastoGdynia, while HMCS Haida is preserved in @cityofhamilton.

The 34th International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in 🇵🇱 Kielce may be over, but the impressions, partnerships and signed agreements will last long after the halls close.

🇨🇦 Canada was the Lead Nation at MSPO 2026, the only non-European country invited to participate in the EU's SAFE initiative, allowing Canadian companies to bid on European defence contracts.

Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence @KosiniakKamysz, and Canada's Minister of National Defence @DavidMcGuinty signed a renewed Defence Cooperation Agreement, advancing work on training, capability development and shared security priorities.

🤝 Canada signed more than 20 agreements with international partners during the event, including with Poland.

💬 "It's a very big breakthrough as we extend our reach into Europe" 🇨🇦 David McGuinty.

MSPO @TargiKielce was the perfect stage to showcase Polish and Canadian defence innovation and to advance new industrial partnerships, including a Memorandum of Understanding between @CAE_Inc (CA) and @WBGroup_PL ELECTRONICS (PL) on training and mission readiness for unmanned systems operators.

📈 Canada's defence industry contributes over 11 billion CAD to its economy and supports more than 82,000 jobs. We are proud to see Poland role in that growth, though as the signed agreements show, this is a relationship of partners, not simply buyer and seller.

💬 As @magdasobkowiak, Secretary of State at Poland's Ministry of National Defence, highlighted: “I really like the term ‘defence partner’. Not a customer, not a buyer, but a partner”

💬 @KonradGolota, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets, remarked that the scale of Canada's delegation spoke for itself: "…when you come to an exhibition like MSPO, you either come to talk about serious contracts (…), or make a few reels for social media (…) In your case, I don't think there's any doubt."
