@CodifyBaseball And yet somehow it was Ohtani’s fault their pitching staff that cost more than average teams entire payroll couldn’t hold a single lead.
Here is the thing about the salary cap. I support if but not the BS the owners are trying to get through with a 30-40% spread ceiling to floor. It needs to create a system where everyone is within 10-15% like NFL/NHL. That floor needs to come up a lot.
There is at least some underlying explanation for Cal Raleigh's and Josh Naylor’s struggles, as both players underwent surgeries over the weekend.

@Joacev1@MLB@MarinersPR I’m not saying it isn’t impressive or unique just that comparing it to the historical record of all MLB history is also fine as long as the disclaimer of SB are approx 40% more likely now is there.
@TridentTrue A bit different when you look at where their payroll is though. They can come down 30mil and still be higher than M’s. So if the M’s said this that would mean dropping into bottom 10 for DBacks it means stepping back towards mid pack from almost top 10.
@mike_petriello@benny_frank09 Context: 1968 was so bad for hitting they made major pro batter changes like lowering the mound height to directly address it in 1969.
@mike_petriello@RyanDivish 1968 was so bad for hitting they lowered the mound height the next year in 1969. So saying we are 1 hitter better than the year so bad it forced pro batter changes isn’t surprising to me at all.
@deserthockybrks@BurnsAndGambo Owners have already offered a 50/50 split this year with a ceiling of 245 mil (cap) and floor of 171 mil and the players wont even consider it. I hate owners as much as the next guy but the players are just as guilty for the state of things.
@TridentTrue Personally I will take someone who is known for having the clubhouse in order and team ready to play everyday. Micro decisions don’t matter if your team doesn’t perform enough for them to matter and that consistency has been the M’s biggest issue imo.
@TridentTrue That depends … if your problem was old school decisions you are correct. If your problem with Wilson was clubhouse culture then no, Mattingly from all accounts commands that respect and that will be much better.
What I fear but also increasingly think is likely; is that the Mariners will sit back and watch all the good managers get taken, claiming “being thorough” and then use that as a shield to hire another FO mouthpiece. They will say “we tried to get exp. But couldn’t.”
@SeaTimesSports@RyanDivish Because players with hustle question marks who magically add an extra 30 to their OPS+ in their free agent years aren’t the guys teams without top 5 payrolls want to gamble on.
@TridentTrue I am okay with this … for now … I will be okay if they settle for one of the other guys on the first top 3-5 lists cause most of them are not a good fit imo (Espada).
@SeattleSports@sanjaromin@hyphen18@WymanAndBob Unless it is very team friendly imo Mariners aren’t signing any big long term deals this offseason because if this squad doesn’t perform next year Dipoto is gone and whole thing gets torn down. Starting 2028 it starts to be very expensive just to keep core together.
@Joe_Fann Nah I am rooting for Tampa Bay and Padres if not them then Brewers. Let’s see a guaranteed first time WS winner. Live vicariously through them. Padres for the final win.
