Shooting at the Toronto festival on July 11: "We seem to overlook the other victims of gun violence in these events: the five people who were also injured that night, either by bullets or in the rush to escape, who will likely suffer from deteriorating health over time; the hundreds of others who witnessed or heard the shooting that night who will bear mental scars; the survivors’ and witnesses’ loved ones, who will also bear some of the emotional burden left by this event. "I am puzzled by the comments offered by attendees at the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights rally. One person suggests the gun policy will 'take away freedom' and that gun ownership is an 'essential right.' Raquel Dancho, MP for Kildonan–St. Paul, said that the policy targets 'family artifacts and heirlooms' and that owning guns is part of the 'Canadian identity.' Admittedly, I don’t have a clear understanding of #BillC21 and the gun #buyback policy, but I am at a loss to understand how military-style assault weapons could be family heirlooms, or an essential right, or even be necessary to hunt for food. My idea of Canadian identity and freedom is being able to live without the fear of being killed by the gunfire of a criminal or paranoid person. "The folks organizing the marketing campaign for gun rights might need to do a better job of reading the room. On Monday, members of the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights @CCFR_CCDAF protested outside @cityofwinnipeg as part of a national day of protest in support of gun rights, in advance of what is expected to be a landmark case this fall in the Supreme Court of Canada @SCC_eng.. Even though the legal case is tenuous, gun owners shrilly disagree with any effort to take their guns. This is a movement rooted in a dangerous tributary of libertarianism that believes it should be able to own any type of gun for any reason, without the need to register or any kind of restrictions.. A smart public-relations professional would likely tell gun rights activists to keep their powder dry and push their protest back so it did not take place in the wake of this wave of gun violence.. While it’s important every Canadian be considered innocent until proven guilty, when you find hundreds of unregistered weapons and $300,000 in cash in the home of one of the country’s more famous gun-rights advocates, you can start to connect the dots between the illegal gun supply used in crimes and some — emphasis on some — so-called legal gun owners."

Former Conservative MP Inky Mark said he's been legally collecting firearms since the early 1970s but admitted some are now illegal due to gun law changes over the years. He also admitted to transferring guns "according to (police) illegally, which it was" three times.

Google Maps shows May 2024 sign that says "Trudeau confiscating all your guns" displayed near his property . That and several others signs were not seen at the property on Tuesday. 439 weapons found in home former Conservative MP. Hundreds illegally stored. Charged with firearms trafficking, unsafe storage, possession of a gun with tampered serial no, possession of property obtained by crime.

A stockpile of this many guns is a #PublicSafety risk in and of itself.

Inky Mark was appointed Manitoba Director of the National Firearms Association in 2011 after having fought to abolish key #GunControl measures as an MP for ReformParty, CanadianAlliance and @CPC_HQ. Before all that he was president of a handgun club.

Perhaps it would be helpful if the gun lobby would spend less time criticizing and rage farming against the government, Liberals and concerned gun control groups and actually suggest reasonable alternative policy beyond "go after the criminals".

[LETTER TO THE EDITOR @mtlgazette] "If anyone has the right and moral authority to demand a ban on the #SKS assault rifle that is believed to have been used in the June 22 killing of a police officer and an innocent bystander in Côte-des-Neiges, it is #HeidiRathjen, a survivor (witness) of the horrific #Polytechnique massacre in 1989. As spokesperson for PolySeSouvient, she states it’s been 36 years that the group has been calling for a ban on assault rifles, only to face postponement after postponement by the federal government. Despite the pushback by gun owners and lobbies, we must focus on the victims of gun violence — those killed and those left behind to mourn them. Why anyone would think it’s OK to own an assault rifle, especially in a city, is beyond me. One has to have been in the #CDN area or seen the long assault weapon pointed at people below through an open hotel window to feel the fear and apprehension at the horror that was unfolding.
