With summer just around the corner, the Port of Los Angeles announces a lineup of events designed to bring families, friends, and community together to soak up the sun and take advantage of all the @LAWaterfront has to offer.
As ports electrify to meet zero‑emission goals, ensuring reliable power becomes critical. At the @PortofLA (POLA), large‑scale electrification of cargo handling equipment is increasing electrical demand and sensitivity to power quality and reliability disturbances.
A recent @EPRI collaborative report, 𝙀𝙣𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙋𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙀𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙤 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙇𝙤𝙨 𝘼𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚, developed with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (@LADWP), POLA, and terminal operators, examines the impacts of voltage sags, interruptions, and system interactions using field assessments, historical data, equipment surveys, and system modeling.
The study shows that voltage sags are a primary driver of equipment trips and highlights practical mitigation strategies. Targeted, control‑level measures, such as optimizing drive settings and conditioning control power, can improve equipment ride‑through and reduce downtime, while medium‑voltage solutions may support applications requiring higher reliability.
