Have you ever wondered what kinds of cargo move through Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor? 👀
It’s probably a more diverse basket of goods than you imagine!
🫗Liquid and dry bulk cargo: The raw materials and building blocks of our Indiana economy like coal, coke, fertilizer, limestone, minerals, salt and alloys.
🏗️ Breakbulk/Project cargo: Things that won’t fit in shipping containers, usually because they are too large, heavy, or awkwardly shaped like steel coils, wire rod, steel beams, wind turbine blades 𖣘 or transformers.
The Port works with stevedores @logistecgroup and Metro Ports to ensure that no matter what the material, we can move it between the water and the road or rail for the balance of the journey.
Keeping Indiana moving is what we do. Learn more: https://t.co/EK8IZUqd3X
Big congratulations to the team at @NLMKindiana ! 🏆
Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor strategic partner NLMK Indiana recently earned the AIST Reliability Achievement Award – Gold from the @AISTech (Association for Iron and Steel Technology), recognizing their work to rebuild and upgrade their 118-ton electric arc furnace - which melts scrap metal into 930,000 tons of new steel annually.
The project delivered real results: improved reliability (measured by increased furnace uptime and reduced delay rates) and enhanced safety for the plant’s 370 employees — outcomes that reflect serious engineering and operational discipline.

Congratulations to @1SI_Chamber (1si) on 20 years of driving economic growth and opportunity in the region! 🎉
For two decades, 1si has been a cornerstone of the Southern Indiana business community — connecting companies, championing development, and helping the region thrive. The work they do directly supports the kind of commerce and industry that makes ports like ours possible.
Last Thursday night, Lance Allison, President & CEO of 1si, welcomed a full house of guests from around the region to mark this incredible milestone.
Here's to 20 more years of progress. We're proud to be part of this community alongside you.

Last week, Ports of Indiana joined Indiana's export community at the Doing Business with Western Europe conference in Evansville. Our European Trade Representative Brian Dooley presented on containerization strategies for reaching Germany, the UK, Switzerland, and Ireland — four markets with a combined $10.7 trillion GDP and $271 billion in annual U.S. exports.
Indiana exported $7.5 billion to these countries last year. That's real economic impact — 187,000 jobs and a #7 ranking among U.S. exporting states.
Big thanks to the Indiana District Export Council, U.S. Commercial Service, and @evvregion for bringing together the business, academic, and government expertise to help Indiana companies navigate today's trade environment.

We were proud to have our CEO, Jody Peacock, take the stage last week at Indy Chamber's Top Investor Breakfast alongside fellow panelists Gretchen Gutman and Eric Hahn, appointees to the Indiana-Ireland Trade Commission Board.
The conversation centered on how the growing partnership between Indiana and Ireland is creating new economic opportunities for Hoosier businesses — and how Indiana's ports play a role in making that trade possible.
Thank you to the @IndyChamber for the invitation and for bringing together some of the region's top business leaders for this important discussion.

🚢 Today is National Maritime Day — and it's one we take seriously at Ports of Indiana.
Established by Congress in 1933, May 22 commemorates the 1819 voyage of the SS Savannah, the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean. That moment didn't just change how people traveled — it changed how the world does business.
More than 200 years later, maritime trade is still the backbone of global commerce. And here in landlocked Indiana, our three ports on the Ohio River and Lake Michigan are proof that you don't need a coastline to be part of it.
Every day, commodities grown and manufactured in the Midwest move through our ports and into global markets — grain heading to international buyers, raw materials arriving to support Indiana manufacturers, and freight connecting our state to supply chains that span the world. Indiana's ports support 50,000 jobs and generate $8.7 billion in annual economic impact, driven in large part by the waterways that have powered trade for centuries.
On National Maritime Day, we honor the mariners, industry professionals, and workers who keep that system moving — and we recommit to building the port infrastructure Indiana needs to compete globally for generations to come.
To everyone in the maritime industry: thank you. ⚓

Last week, Ports of Indiana European Trade Representative Brian Dooley had the privilege of attending the launch of this year’s Irish Maritime Transport Economist, at an event organized by the @IMDO, Ireland’s dedicated state agency for the development, promotion, and marketing of the Irish shipping and shipping services sector.
The launch event focused on recent changes and challenges in the maritime sector, highlighting the numerous crises the industry has faced and its remarkable resilience in adapting to meet customers' needs. The annual bulletin is a comprehensive reference guide to maritime transport statistics, including; trade, traffic, international shipping markets and economic data. Well done to the authors Daniel Fallen Bailey and Mark Larkin.

💧Water isn't just a resource for the industries we serve — it's the foundation our ports are built on.
CCO Brady Jacoba attended the @VenturesHG Industrial Water Forum in Indianapolis last week, where corporate operators, innovators, and investors tackled the biggest challenges in industrial water management.
⚓Ports of Indiana operates on the Ohio River (Jeffersonville & Mount Vernon) and Lake Michigan (Burns Harbor). The resilience and responsible use of those water systems is central to everything we do — so conversations about aging infrastructure, emerging contaminants, and the next decade of water technology are directly relevant to how we operate and grow.

💧 Happy #GreatLakesAwarenessDay!
