IITGN was invited to the IWMI-Tata Partners’ Meet 2025, held at the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) Campus in Anand from December 4 to 6, 2025. This flagship event is an initiative of the IWMI-Tata Water Policy Program, created by the International Water Management Institute and Tata Trusts, to share ongoing work, receive feedback, and identify promising opportunities for collaborative application oriented water policy research.
Among the various thematic tracks, IITGN partnered in ‘Solarisation of Agriculture’, ‘Water for Life and Ecosystems’, and ‘Smallholder Prosperity’. As the institute’s representative, Prof Praharsh Patel, Assistant Professor of Environmental Economics, offered valuable insights covering his ongoing research interests around water policy, on topics such as, ‘Water Pricing Through Solar Irrigation: SKY Experience’, ‘Contextual Overview of Household Water Pricing’, and ‘Shaping Resilient Coastal Futures: Protection in an Era of Change’.
Given the institute’s current work on a broad spectrum of matters related to water, IWMI and IITGN intend for meaningful collaboration in water policy research. As a result, a roundtable meeting was held on January 7, 2026 to discuss the MoU’s annexure, with Dr Alok Sikka and Mr Shilp Verma, Country Representative and Deputy Country Representative of IWMI respectively.
Together, IWMI and IITGN move closer to co-creating scientifically accurate, technically feasible and socio-economically acceptable sustainable water solutions that respond to both policy needs and ground realities.

Recent elections—both in the U.S. and India—highlight a critical gap: academia, media, and even “unbiased” pollsters can sometimes miss the realities on the ground.
While data analytics can offer valuable insights, it’s vital to look beneath the surface.
The most important issue about water is not supply, but how it is used https://t.co/wSzYWO7Tur
My response when people talk about water scarcity in India or anywhere in the world!

Integrating resource management is well defined need but requires a lot of coordination amongst the silos. @NitinBassiN and Garima Taneja have nicely crafted the blog piece and excellent reports coming from the practitioners in the field!
#IsraelHamasWar prevented me + 4 🇮🇱 economists from attending the 1st conference on Middle Eastern #SustainableDevelopment@NYUAbuDhabi ☹️
