"We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented": Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech 1986
Research shows that negative news travels 15 times more than positive news. This “news”👇- though now retracted - must have gained legs. Beware of manufactured narratives.
"Due to extreme summer conditions, the water that we distribute evaporates on the way, which is why there is a water shortage in Delhi"
This is how CM Rekha Gupta justifies the water crisis in Delhi
I wonder how she can say such stupid things with a straight face

I spent months trying to understand the AI "undressing" economy in India. One man got arrested for building a fake AI persona from his ex-girlfriend's face. The story didn't end there.
This is about everyone else in the chain who profited, looked away, didn’t care. #thread
In 1997, my engineer brother developed a small lump above his collar bone. I was a young Dr then, & my father took him to his cousin, Dr. Jeyasingh Cooksley, former HOD, Stanley & personal surgeon to Dr. Kalaignar Ayya. Dr. Cooksley diagnosed him with TB Lymphadenitis & started him on ATT. I asked him whether biopsy/FNAC was necessary, but he regally waved me off.
Lumps started appearing in his neck. We took him again to the great surgeon, who diagnosed Drug-resistant TB,& put him on 2nd line ATT. Meanwhile my mother with her loving maternal instincts invited 'Alternative Med' practitioners, a euphemism for quacks to treat him.
First to appear was a 75 yr old homeopath, a retired Surgery HOD, Thanjavur Med College, who had renounced medicine & was practicing 'Homeopathy'. He stopped TB medicines, & started him on 'H' drugs. Precious time ws being lost, while the disease ws progressing at break neck speed.
Despite my vehement protests, my mother invited Ayurveds next. They started Rx with their concoctions, & the bill was heavy. No sign of improvement. She then brought in Siddha, Unani 'Drs' to treat my brother as a guinea pig. The Rx cost was enormous, precious time was being lost, & the 'disease' was travelling with a vengeance.
Tho my mother was an imposing figure in my house, & took all important household decisions, I decided to put my foot down. Enough of this nonsense.I took my brother to Apollo Cancer Hospital, to an efficient team headed by Dr. Hemanthraj & Dr. Subramaniam. In the meanwhile, when Quacks were extorting us for insane sums of money, my brother had developed apple-sized lumps in both groins, both armpits, both sides of the neck,& a giant spleen.
The great Drs at Apollo immediately proceeded with biopsy,& confirmed Stage 4 ,High grade Non- Hodkins Lymphoma, which in that era was incurable. They put him on state of the art Chemo & radiotherapy.
They told my brother & us that, had we come to them before precious time was lost to quacks( pseudoscience practitioners ), they cd have saved his life. From the detailed history that I gave them, they surmised that at the time of noticing the lump, it was Stage 1 cancer & eminently curable. As my mother went shopping from Homeopathy to Ayurveda to Siddha , the disease had travelled to Stage 4 Cancer which was incurable (in that era).
I have had a long career as a Dr,& seen many painful deaths. Without any exaggeration at all, I can say that my brother suffered the most painful death, I hv ever known. From fractures spine & loss of use of lower limbs coz of spread of cancer to spine, to pneumonia, while pseudoscience practitioners were extorting exorbitant sums of money from us, & experimenting with life & death.
It was only his immense faith in God, that sustained him till the end. He predicted the exact date & time of his death, after the Apollo Drs gave up on him, & asked us to take him home from the ICU so that he cd spend his last days & hrs at home, amidst loved ones... On 11.7.2000, he passed away. But, only after his unusual outburst I had related in my previous tweet.. THE RAGE OF ANGELS..
And that is why, I am a crusader against Pseudoscience.
Malviya Nagar Fire Case which killed 21 innocent people in India’s National Capital Delhi.
Magisterial Inquiry has been ordered and an FIR has been registered against the owner of the property.
Delhi Chief Minister’s Office says, “A city-wide crackdown will be launched against illegal properties, unauthorised guest houses and establishments operating in violation of fire safety norms and building by-laws. Such premises will be sealed and prosecuted in accordance with the law. Those responsible for this tragedy will be held accountable”.
I can bet my bottom dime that the Delhi Police shall deny him permission to have a cockroach protest in Jantar Mantar on June 6th. I can also reasonably foresee a preventative detention as was done for Sonam Wangchuk! This govt is not like the UPA which allowed civil society to freely protest and then paid a heavy price for it. This is the same reason why it doesn’t make its ministers take public accountability and resign!
A young life and an alumna of my alma mater, TISS, was lost in the #DelhiFireTragedy. She graduated less than a month ago and was burnt to death.
Yet no heads will roll in the government. Where is the accountability?
Dereliction of duty by government officials that leads to the deaths of innocent citizens must attract capital punishment.
The officials who were asleep at the wheel while a hotel was operating a 25-room facility despite being licensed to run only a 6-room establishment should be given the death sentence.
My first tweet on #RajeshExports was in 2014. The suspicion started much earlier. There is something called a smell test. It decades to develop - if you keep your ears and eyes open.

An enumerator from Rajasthan told The Hindu on condition of anonymity, “In the mobile app, if we enter that a household has a tin roof, we are asked by our superiors to change it to concrete. Are we supposed to lie? Similarly, if the house does not have a toilet and occupants are defecating in the open, we are told to check if there is a toilet nearby, even that of a neighbour or a relative, which they may be using occasionally or even a public urinal. Then the entry can be changed from ‘open defecation’ to having access to a toilet.”
Yesterday, after a meeting in Connaught Place, I realised my two young colleagues had never heard of Cottage Industries Emporium- one of Delhi’s iconic though expensive shopping destinations when I was growing up.
So I took them for a walk-through. It was a sad one hour.
Not ONE shopper.

And then, the last straw : This creepy looking Santa Claus wrapped in plastic staring at us.
Pls pay the workers a full and final, sell everything on discount and close this place down. It’s time is over.

@jasuja@sonalkalra@SandeepMall All commercial places, offices, workplaces, and increasingly schools and institutions.. are fully dependent on electronic locks. Need to make them safer, with emergency overrides esp for exits. Sort of like we won't move away from digital payments despite the superscams...
