“What is the meaning of Preh?”

Since I get this question a lot, I think I’ll just put it down here: Preh (pronounced Pireh) is an indigenous name from Sindh that appears in the poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai - a short thread🧵

The problem is not people being uneducated.
The problem is that people are educated just enough to believe what they have been taught, and not educated enough to question anything from what they have been taught. 🧠

Noor Jehan is us - she represents the ppl of this country, province, of Karachi. A migrant, caged, abused, exploited and starved. The same institutions responsible for her deterioration have been responsible for the decay of our once proud city, province and people.

My friend and I were on the way to markaz when we saw this old man around 10pm, barely managed to sell a single balloon the whole day. What broke my heart was that he was all quiet when we asked him wether he was okay instead he just literally kept quiet. THREAD:

Aurat March gets relentlessly slandered & critiqued, but it's clear the movement has already fundamentally changed Pakistani society in a very short timespan. This kind of popular consciousness about women's rights in small towns would've been unthinkable only a few years ago.

@ridanaqvi Thank you! I grew up not liking my name very much since it made me the subject of a lot of bullying but when I was old enough to realise the value of it, my perspective totally changed. Wouldn’t have it any other way now 💞

[Preh Memon @prehmemon]

So that’s what the name means. I was named Preh by my grandfather because I was the first girl to be born to the family. My grandfather always wanted daughters to raise but never had any; when his first granddaughter came, a symbolic name connoting hope and change was chosen 💞

& heralding the reunion of estranged lovers. Dawn carries a promise of a better future, of possibilities & of adversities coming to an end. The first verse of the Risalo mentions Preh in the context of Moomal describing the rising sun, praying that dawn brings the return of Ranu.
