Flags at the Confederation Building will be flown at half-mast until Tuesday, February 17, out of respect for the victims of the tragic violence in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.
On behalf of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, Premier Tony Wakeham extends our deepest condolences to the families, friends, students, educators, and first responders affected, and to all British Columbians in mourning.

In just 100 days, we’ve frozen tuition, restored 24-hour snow clearing, and put Newfoundland and Labrador back on the national stage.
We’re focused on delivering better healthcare, lower taxes, and safer communities.
This is only the beginning of our work to build a better, brighter future for all of us.
It was an honour to return to a gym where I once coached, now as Premier, to recognize outstanding athletes from across Newfoundland and Labrador with the Premier’s Athletic Awards.
Their achievements reflect these athletes’ hard work and talent, as well as the dedication of parents, coaches, and supporters who helped make it possible.

Congratulations to all of this year’s Premier's Athletic Award recipients!
From the gym to the rink, the track to the court, these athletes remind us that success is built through discipline, teamwork, and showing up when it counts.
Great to connect with my fellow Atlantic Canadian Premiers today as we work toward a stronger, more prosperous Atlantic Canada.
We had important discussions about securing our fair share of investment in defence spending, new energy opportunities, and innovation.
Looking forward to continuing this work together for the benefit of all Atlantic Canadians, including right here at home in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Today, our government was able to make an immediate $500,000 donation to the Community Food Sharing Association, with the total contribution expected to reach up to $1 million as NLC sells its remaining inventory of American liquor.
This isn’t just a number on a page. It means food on the table for families who are struggling. It means support for over 60 food banks across Newfoundland and Labrador. It means helping more families and children, at a time of year when the need is greatest.
Thank you to the Community Food Sharing Association for the incredible work they do every single day. Together, we can make the holidays a little brighter for families across our province.

On #HumanRightsDay, we reflect on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948 under the leadership of Eleanor Roosevelt.
This historic document, a blueprint for equality and dignity, remains as relevant as ever. Let’s continue her legacy by standing up for human rights everywhere.
As we enter the final stretch of the Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign, I’m asking Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to come together and support those who need it most.
I’ve proclaimed December 8–14 as Salvation Army Week in Newfoundland and Labrador — a reminder of the hope this organization brings to families across our province.
If you’re able, please consider donating at a local kettle or online. Together, we can make sure no one is alone this holiday season. https://t.co/jxeav8Fdb2
Yesterday, I said Newfoundland and Labrador is back in the oil business.
Today, I met with Prime Minister @MarkJCarney to make our case for recognizing Bay du Nord as a Major Project in the National Interest - a designation that would unlock jobs, investment, and opportunity for our province.
From day one, I promised to fight for Newfoundland and Labrador. I will continue to do exactly that.
We have the workers.
We have the resources.
And we have the potential to create good-paying jobs and a stronger economy for all of us.
Something festive has arrived at Confederation Building.🎄
This 30 foot white spruce from Conception Bay South will be lit on December 4 during the Winter Lights Across Canada event, with more than 60,000 LED lights bringing brightness to the Prince Philip Drive area.
Here’s to the start of a bright holiday season.🌟
Grateful to host my colleagues here in St. John’s for the 46th Annual Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers.
We share a long history of working together to advance priorities across our regions, and I look forward to strengthening that partnership in the years ahead.
Honoured to kick off the 46th Annual Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers in St. John’s at @COIC_NL, showcasing Newfoundland and Labrador’s growing tech and innovation sector.
An incredible honour to join Minister Andrea Barbour in presenting Dave Panting with the @_MusicNL_ Lifetime Achievement Award, the organization’s highest honour recognizing a lifetime of excellence and dedication.
Hats off to all of this year’s MusicNL nominees, and thank you for sharing your talent. We have so much to be proud of.
The phones were ringing off the hook and the holiday spirit was in full swing today at the Avalon Mall!
Hats off to the VOCM Cares Foundation on another fantastic Dial-a-Carol event. Thank you for everything you do to support our local communities and charities.
Important discussions today with the Honourable Joanne Thompson, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and the Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador on nation-building projects, Bay du Nord, increased defence spending, and our fishery.
I look forward to continued engagement with the federal government and Prime Minister Carney to ensure all of us get our fair share in this great confederation.
Yesterday I met with @OilGasCanada alongside Energy and Mines Minister @lloyd_parrott for important discussions on how we can unleash Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore oil and gas sector.
Our government will always stand up for responsible oil and gas development and the good jobs it creates. We are focused on supporting production growth and most importantly maximizing opportunities, jobs and benefits for all of us.
Productive meeting today with @Trades_NL and Minister of Energy and Mines, @lloyd_parrott.
Our team remains focused on ensuring the voices of workers and families are included in the conversations that shape this province. Just as we promised during the campaign, tradespeople and working families will always have a seat at the table.
Together, we can build a stronger, brighter future for all of us.
