Backward Systems Thinking: Trying to "diversify staff" our way to antiracism by recruiting people into a racist system, then providing them with mentoring and other "supports" ostensibly to help them survive the racism we're ignoring. Then acting surprised when they leave.
Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.
More athletes and coaches need to recognize failure is part of success and what's most important is continuing to improve which includes learning from failures and disappointing seasons!

Without the advocacy and contributions of Survivors, Sept. 30 would be just another day in the calendar. Survivors led us to this moment on the journey of reconciliation, while they have been on their own personal journeys of healing.

It’s easy to have empathy for the children who never came home and their families. It’s not so easy to have empathy for those who are survivors and still walking w their trauma, the drunks, the addicts, the homeless and the incarcerated. WE MUST have empathy for all of “them/us

As a young teacher with a robust background in sports, I designed my class with a resounding “sports” feel.
Although that was empowering for some, it was likely alienating for most, and I’ve learned to minimize my personality when designing the class.
