Once you accept that making wack beats is a part of being a good producer you stop tripping about everything not hitting and focus on getting shots up.
I've never been one of those guys who felt they could flip any sample, but I would be lying if I said there weren't times when a sample really jumped out to me as a big challenge. This was one of them. When i first heard it, I was like nah don't even try it. Then I was like f*#k that I'm doing it 😂. A little while later, this beat was made on the MPC Sample. Beat #42. Hit me in the comments if y'all dig it.

This is something I appreciate about step sequencers like the Digitakt (although it does give the option to finger-drum too).
Those type of sequencers give another perspective on how to program the beat with good pocket.
Absolutely. Interestingly enough, I ended up on the pads cause I was looking for a way to create better drum programming and sequencing. Pointing and clicking your way through song production felt boring 😬
The record store boom will burst in SE Asia & Brazil soon. Because many vendors are convinced they need to overcharge for records, in a way that isn’t sustainable long term.
MICHIGAN - I'm coming your way this holiday weekend for two shows in your state and I need y'all to be in attendance. Both doors have 6pm doors so please be prompt. Details below:
On Tour:
Sat Sept 5th - Traverse City, MI @ Acorn Kitchen
Sun Sept 6th - Grand Rapids, MI @ Grammotones
See y'all there!
I realized the other day that due to the nature of these videos being so short, it may give some newer producers the impression that the process of making these beats is fast. Unfortunately, it is not. As far as I can tell, it probably takes me about 1-2 hours to make these beats on the MPC Sample. I wish it were faster, but machines aren't really beat for speed in my opinion. You really have to craft and sculpt a beat on these things, whereas programs like Ableton are kind of optimized for speed and ease. But that isn't a complaint at all; it's actually a good thing. It forces me to be more deliberate about what I'm doing and making sure every idea is good enough to move forward with. I guess the moral of the story is that the point isn't to make the beat the fastest, its to make the best beat you can make. I've made great beats in 15 minutes and great beats in 2 hours. This is beat #40 on the MPC Sample...not sure if I'm gonna make it to 100 beats by the end of this year, but it feels good to be working towards it. Two shows this weekend in Michigan:
On Tour:
Sat Sept 5th - Traverse City, MI @ Acorn Kitchen
