The Passing of the Mai of a Giant Town of Ngazargamo!
I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, and people of Ngazargamo over the passing of their Mai, His Highness Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Bn Salih. As reported by the Emirate, His Highness passed away in Egypt today, Tuesday, 9th of June 2026, after a prolonged illness.
Ngazargamo is a town we are all proud of, including its rulers for many centuries. It became the political, economic, and cultural center of the Kanem-Bornu Empire for over 300 years. Positioned on trans-Saharan trade routes, it served as a major hub for salt, ivory, gold, and slaves, among other goods.
At its height, the city covered about 1500 hectares, with population estimates ranging from 20,000 to 250,000. By 1658, it was described as one of the world’s largest cities, home to around 250,000 people and 660 tree-lined streets. Under Mai Idris Alauma (May Allah be merciful to him), who ruled from 1564 to 1596, the empire underwent major military reforms, including the introduction of Ottoman-trained musketeers, while trade expanded with Morocco, Egypt, and the Ottoman court. Mai Idris Alauma also standardised measures in trade and reformed the legal system in line with Islamic jurisprudence.
Ngazargamo was the longest-reigning capital of the Kanem-Borno Empire, lasting over six centuries, and stood as a major center of Islamic learning and African civilisation.
We pray to Allah to admit the late Emir into Jannatul Firdaus, together with our departed parents and loved ones, and to grant the family, the people of Ngazargamo, the entire state, and the nation the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss of our father, the Emir.

Commendation for our Security and Intelligence Agencies!
I am delighted by the news of the successful rescue of 360 abducted schoolchildren in Borno by the Nigerian army and other security agencies. This heartwarming development has brought immense relief to their families, communities, and all well-meaning Nigerians.
I commend the Nigerian armed forces, intelligence agencies, local security volunteers, and everyone involved in this operation for their swift, coordinated, and professional response. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to duty made this successful rescue possible.
This achievement is a powerful reminder that with determination, collaboration, and patriotism, we can overcome even the most difficult security challenges confronting our nation.
I congratulate all those who played a role in this operation and pray that Almighty Allah continues to protect and strengthen our security personnel as they work tirelessly to safeguard our people and our country.
May this rescue bring renewed relief to the affected families and reinforce our collective resolve to build a safer and more secure Nigeria for all.
May Allah continue to expose and humiliate the terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and all other criminals.
