Is this the “elbows up” folks voted for? Carney just totally selling out the ability for Canada to ever recoup what we spent building this bridge??? All because one guy thought it was “unfair” that, even though the U.S. made no initial investment, they wouldn’t now get a cut?!
Here are some of the details on what Canada had to give up to open the Gordie Howe Bridge, as per a Canadian government source.
For the first 15 years, Canada gets 50% of toll profits and the other 50% goes into a regional "economic development fund." What that fund does and who runs, is not clear
Under the previous agreement, Canada was to receive 100% of toll profit until they were made whole on the $6.4B they spent to build the bridge, which Michigan/the US contributed $0. The agreement also says it could be 50+ years before Canada was whole, that timeline is now longer.
The Americans will have to agree if Canada wants to increase the bridge tolls by more than 10%, or lower them below compared regional averages.
That clause helps out the owners of the Ambassador Bridge, the Maroun family, who have donated to the Trump administration and previously to US ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra, to try and stop the new bridge from opening #cdnpoli
Would love to travel to @WSCriminology & @ASCRM41 conferences and engage with the academic community in the field. Unfortunately, the current administration in the United States is trying to destroy my country economically. So my personal & professional money will stay in Canada.
The totally unnecessary late added time goal by Belgium just to put an exclamation point on the USA being totally outclassed on the pitch 👍 Chef’s kiss! Bye bye!!!
Hahaha the USA is currently finding out the difference between a top ten ranked European national team and any North American national team of any rank 😂 The run and gun style that worked against 20 and 30-something ranked sides was never going to work against Belgium.
Let the madness begin! FIFA really stepped in it with the red card suspension. Two yellow cards in the knockout stages = a game suspension. So if any yellow card was handed out “unfairly,” then this should also be subject to appeal and suspension by FIFA (precedent).
FIFA has opened itself up to a landslide of cases like this...
The French FA want Olise's yellow card against Paraguay nulified, citing the decision to rescind Balogun's red for the USA.
USA football arrogance - “we beat the 61st, 34th, 28th, and 27th ranked programs in the world, so clearly we can beat the 9th ranked program in the world and also then beat out the 3rd, 1st and then (probably) the 2nd to win the World Cup.” HA! I have a bridge to sell you!
How many of these VAR reviews against England are going to be overturned after the Prime Minister calls FIFA? I mean, a precedent has been set! Red cards don’t mean what they formerly did…
FIFA is historically an extremely corrupt organization (racketeering, wire fraud, money laundering, etc.). Why is anyone surprised this same organization is now bowing to political influence? This just sets precedent for any host nation to wield influence over play in the future.
Breaking News: President Trump called the head of FIFA days before the suspension of Folarin Balogun, the U.S.’s top goal scorer in the World Cup, was reversed. https://t.co/bMp27wl79X
Bill C-3 is poorly worded and created confusion. Feds very much made it sound like citizenship would be automatically granted to so-called "lost Canadians." When, really, proof and IRCC verification was always required. Apparently IRCC was confused too. https://t.co/sX9Jd1TfuE
@DeputyChow Police budgets have been stagnating (or decreasing) per capita for well over a decade. “Do more with less” only works for so long until measurable impacts occur - member burnout and attrition, decreased ability to respond to calls for service, public dissatisfaction, etc.
Banning senior #police leadership from speaking out on issues of public safety just because their thoughts are incongruent with city hall is an awful overreach. Senior leadership needs the ability to speak truth to power where power is negatively impacting public safety. #Surrey
NEW (1/4) - The Surrey Police Board is voting tomorrow on a directive that would ban senior police leaders from publicly criticizing city hall, elected officials, or government decisions. The Surrey Police Union is calling it a gag order. #bcpoli
NBA refereeing is an absolute joke. Not even calling a foul on Wemby MULTIPLE TIMES on what are OBVIOUSLY techs is absolutely insane. They will do absolutely anything to protect him. #Knicks
So let me get this straight - Canada is simultaneously funding Ukraine in their fight against Russia while simultaneously cozying up to the regime (China) that is essentially keeping Russia in that same conflict🤦🏻♂️ And we’d rather do that than try to work with the U.S.??? Hmmm…
"Without China, Russia would have lost. It's as simple as that."
Former MI6 chief Richard Moore exposes the brutal reality of Beijing’s shadow war in Ukraine. While North Korean troops and Iranian drones grab the media headlines, Moore reveals that Chinese material support is what actually keeps Vladimir Putin's military machine alive.
Beijing is directly fueling the conflict by supplying the essential chemicals needed for Russian artillery shells, along with critical components for their drones and missiles. Watch the video below to see why Western intelligence warns that confronting China's involvement is the most urgent issue in the entire conflict.
